I don't think that comparative education is beneficial as it as the potential to foster global labeling, especially if the comparative writer/author is biased.

I would say comparative education can be beneficial because students can use the findings to help their native countrie’s educational systems. A deeper understanding of other nation’s educational systems is gained by students through it and they can take some of these ideas back to their own country to assist raise educational standards.

So this is a tricky question because I have mixed feelings about this concept. On one end, it’s great because we can fill in the gaps of what SA is missing which leads to improves but on the other end, it feels unrealistic. Every country is different and have to do what works for their circumstances. Comparing other countries with SA only makes you feel pressured to keep up. We need to set our own limits and do what we think is best for our country.

We can obviously learn from other countries but what works for them might not necessarily work for us. Lelane Lourens

Global education helps develop self-awareness of one's own identity, culture, beliefs and how those connect with the wider world, social awareness including empathy, perspective-taking, appreciating diversity, and respecting others, and relationship-building skills with diverse individuals and groups through effective so I think it’s good for South Africa to gain knowledge from other countries.

As South Africa it would be difficult to construct a curriculum for Japan, for example, because those countries differ when it comes to population size, historical events, language and more importantly we would not know what to put into a curriculum that would service its citizens. My point is South Africa being the rainbow nation that it is makes us so different from other countries so we are the only people who can tailor our education system to suit our needs so efforts to transform our education system will not come from the north.
Bukelwa Kumalo

I think comparative education is beneficial to an extent, we should observe, learn from success and failures and continue to construct an education that does not follow behind but is continuously being re envisioned and re framed through an African lens. It would be challenging to compare Finland to South Africa when to start teachers are not values the same, infrastructure cannot be matched. We would always fall behind.

I don't think we should base a South African education system on a Eurocentric education system. I believe the content is not specific speaking to learners in a South African context and it is not the best learning experience for our context. I believe our curriculum should speak to our learners on their own experiences.

The blanket that covers the global north is suited for them as their context is different to ours. As South Africans we should knit ourselves an education system that suits our own context.

Trying to adopt a system and apply it to SA would be like forcing a square to be a triangle. We have to look at what would you work for us.
