         <title>Bell UH-1 Helicopter</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This was also known as the Huey&nbsp;<br>It allowed troops safe landing and access to Vietnam in the war<br>they were used during the war more than 7,000<br>The average GI in Vietnam saw about 240 days of combat in 1 year, because of the Huey&nbsp;<br>The chopper first flew on 1956 &nbsp;<br>It could fly on lower altitudes and speeds, good for picking up troops and it was smaller and lighter&nbsp;<br>It was easily maneuverable&nbsp;<br>It carried many uses like having troops, gunners, and supplies in it&nbsp;<br>Controlled by two pilots and it could carry up to 7 fully equipped troops&nbsp;<br>It's max speed is 135 mph (this was extremely fast for a helicopter)&nbsp;<br>Carried machine guns (fired 4000 bullets per minute) and rocket launchers&nbsp;<br>Most manufactured helicopter in history&nbsp;<br>It is still used by more than 60 air forces throughout the world<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A network of dirt roads winding from North Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia into South Vietnam<br>They used the trail for resources, weapons, troops, and psychological support to the South against us.&nbsp;<br>The journey to the south took six months originally&nbsp;<br>They used trees and grass as cover to hide from the Americans&nbsp;<br>Many deaths on the trail were caused by heat exposure, Malaria, amoebic dysentery, starving to death, and animal attacks (mainly tigers)&nbsp;<br>Meals and rations were usually just rice and salt<br>Soldiers occupied their spare time by drawing sketches, drinking and smoking, and writing letters<br>Arriving in the south is a real celebration&nbsp;<br>On the trail, China and Russia sent support in the form of thousands of trucks against us and bombings&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Underground Vietnam Tunnels</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Cu Chi district was a Viet Cong stronghold during the Vietnam War&nbsp;<br>The North Vietnamese dug an elaborate system of tunnels under Cu Chi (It took 20 years to develop)&nbsp;<br>The tunnels stretched for 120 miles&nbsp;<br>Viet Cong used the tunnels to avoid aerial attacks, house troops, transport communications, and supplies&nbsp;<br>After an attack, the Vietnamese vanished underground in their tunnels<br>The tunnels housed underground villages&nbsp;<br>Dangers included: flooding, disease, poor ventilation, insects, and snake&nbsp;<br>U.S forces trained "tunnel rats" to navigate the tunnels (an extremely dangerous job)&nbsp;<br>More than 43,000 Vietnamese died defending the Cu Chi tunnels&nbsp;<br>The Cu Chi tunnels still exist today&nbsp;<br>It stands as a symbol of underground warfare in Vietnam<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A.K.A USS maddox incident, it was responsible for America's entry in the Vietnam war<br>Vietnam was divided into halves (North and South) by the 17th parallel<br>The United states was concerned about the spread of communism in vietnam so they had little involvement till 1964<br>South Vietnamese commandos attacked North Vietnamese targets in the Gulf of Tonkin on July 31st 1964&nbsp;<br>On August 2nd 1964 American Naval destroyers had moved into North Vietnamese waters to gather intelligence on the enemy's naval strength<br>The ship was the Maddox, in the incident&nbsp;<br>Captain Herrick noticed that they were being followed by North Vietnamese<br>The U.S fired three warning shots<br>The USS Maddox was then fired upon by the enemy torpedo boats&nbsp;<br>Captain Herrick opened fired and hit all three enemy targets&nbsp;<br>The enemy boats fired torpedoes but missed&nbsp;<br>Two days later they the U.S went over to fight once more&nbsp;<br>Herrick sent a later message claiming that he was mistaken about the attack and blamed it on the weather&nbsp;<br>The benefit for LBJ in this situation was to send troops into the war to enforce the Truman Doctrine<br>&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>On the 29th of March, 1973, the last American Troops withdrew from South Vietnam&nbsp;<br>Taking place two months after the Paris Peace Accord was signed between the U.S, North Vietnam, South Vietnam, and Vietcong&nbsp;<br>The final withdrawal had ended eight years of direct American military involvement in the country of Vietnam&nbsp;<br>Throughout the 1960's, the number of US troops sent in Vietnam increased, however, the number steadily decreased when the Nixon doctrine was implemented to equip, expand, and train South Vietnam's forces to fend off themselves&nbsp;<br>Following the My Lai Massacre, troop withdrawals continued as well<br>As more people hated the U.S war effort in Vietnam, more and more troops withdrew from Vietnam</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>By 1974 North Vietnamese troops had violated the Paris Peace Accords and renewed their assault on the South<br>At the time, it was clear that the Republic of Vietnam would fall&nbsp;<br>In April of 1975, North Vietnamese troops approached Saigon for sieging<br>President Ford ordered all U.S troops and citizens out of the country&nbsp;<br>On April 29, 1975, armed forces played "White Christmas" to signal an evacuation was underway&nbsp;<br>Captain Gerald Berry was assigned to rescue U.S ambassador Graham Martin in Saigon. The entire mission then evolved into an 18-hour day of shuttling people to an armada of ships&nbsp;<br>At that point, North Vietnamese tanks were visible as they were headed for the capital of Saigon<br>In the early hours of April 30th, despite multiple flights and many evacuees Captain Berry uttered three words that meant it was imperative for U.S diplomats to leave Saigon&nbsp;<br>It was humiliating for the U.S to leave and evacuate an area (Saigon) in which we have come to defend, it was apparent we were defeated in that battle <br><br>&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A shocking military campaign and a major turning point in the Vietnam war&nbsp;<br>On January 30, 1968, the North Vietnamese Army and southern communist rebels (Vietcong) launched a number of coordinated attacks against the U.S and South Vietnamese troops&nbsp;<br>The series of attacks were named Tet, as they occurred during the Vietnamese Lunar Holiday&nbsp;<br>It lead to a significant two-month struggle that altered the course of the Vietnam war<br>It started off when North Vietnamese troops launched massive surprise attacks in mountainous regions on the Laos-Cambodia border&nbsp;<br>85,000 North Vietnamese troops attacked five major cities in South Vietnam, as well as 100 additional towns, villages, and military installations<br>Not only that, but they also attacked the U.S embassy in Saigon, which partially penetrated the walls there&nbsp;<br>They aimed to achieve a decisive victory that would end the Vietnam War, even though the fight was messy&nbsp;<br>This strategic move marked a turning point in the Vietnam war<br>It turned out to be quite beneficial for the North Viatnamese<br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>
