I interviewed a guidance counselor, a special education teacher and a regular education teacher. All of their responses included that collaboration was working together towards a goal while keep the best interests of the students in mind. Collaboration at our school is very important. With the co-teaching model in place at our school it is imperative that collaboration take place so that every child has the opportunity to be successful in the least restrictive environment. A barrier to collaboration could be schedules of the people working with the students. All of the people I interviewed use collaboration daily through discussion, meetings, emails, and phone calls. They also believe that they learned most of their collaboration skills through experiences.

After comparing the three interviews all three professionals agreed that co teaching is when a regular education teacher and special education teacher plan and teach together to meet the needs of all the students. Some special education teachers teach multiple grade levels so there are times when the special education teacher is not in the classroom, however the lessons were planned together. There are different co-teaching models, but the model that seems most popular is station teaching and parallel teaching. At time a barrier to co-teaching could be the scheduling and amount of time two teachers are in the same room.

The three people I interviewed all agreed that consultation in education is a meeting between teachers/para-professionals/counselors/related service providers about a student or topic. During these formal meetings teams discuss progress and goals of a student.
