The biggest task was to create something that stayed true to the community and what it represents. We wanted something that would be able to not only showcase the best of who we are and what we are but also inspire future generations to come. Home Harvest Fest is the celebration of local talent and produce coming together to connect engage and inspire everyone in the community. We decided that the best way to do that is to have a showcase of everything brilliant, grand, marvellous, incredible, amazing, delicious, tear jerking, thought provoking and most importantly LOCAL! I thought the Fremantle Esplanade was a large green space that would provide the perfect feel as it contains great facilities for a festival like the Home Harvest. The park offers large grassed areas with enough room to set up stages, food vans, local art stalls, space for activities, room for portable toilets as well as providing public toilets close by, many car parks in close proximity and close to public transport, including buses and train stations. Fremantle holds a significant historical value to the Perth area and is known for its art and creativity. Fremantle appeals to many people through its historical charm and its creative charisma; the city has unique arty vibe you will not find anywhere else in the Perth metro region and is home to the famous Fremantle markets and many hip and trendy cafes and bars. We have agreed to use the Fremantle Esplanade for our festival as being in the center of such a popular area in Perth, it will appeal to many more people if we had it somewhere less popular or accessible. With such a rich community of arts, craft, food and music in Fremantle, we thought there would be no better place within the metro region to hold a festival that is supporting local music, food and arts. The park has held many festivals before; Laneway festival in both 2014 and 2015, Save the Kimberly Concert in 2013 and frequently holds farmers markets monthly, so we knew it would be possible to hold such a large community festival, and it would be a hit.

For an event with 50 persons or over, the event needs to be booked three months prior. An events packaged is filled out and sent to the City Council for approval. In holding an event like Home Harvest Fest, certain requirements need to be met to keep the festival under control and minimise risk and loss. Factors such as food and drink stalls, toilet facilities, rubbish, noise, signage, evacuation plans, electricity, risk management, traffic management, parking requirements. As it is not a festival that is charges to attend, security, fencing and charge fees are not an issue. Portable toilets will be provided and the stalls will provide food, water, and alcohol if they please. A liquor license application form was filled out to obtain a license for the day. Attached is the event application via the City of Fremantle, which contains a map of the Esplanade Park being used for Home Harvest. Some photos of the site being used for a concert and for a farmers market are available to give an idea how the space will be used for Home Harvest fest.

My job is to make sure that event is well publicised and marketed before and even after the event with up to date information posts and samples of whats to come. Advertising space is a must and in our current age social media is vital, here I have created an Instagram account for the event and also a Facebook event page which are just a few examples of where to begin. Hashtags such as #HomeHarvestFest or #HHF and #LoveLocal will be the 3 tags that will be pushed towards promoting the event.

Social media is one of the outlets to organise any event within young adults Traditional and usually more expensive formats (TV, radio, bus shelters etc) are effective but keeping the idea of our event is to keep is as organic as possible. By that I mean word of mouth is key, there will be cases were we will need to do advertising that isn’t digital but creating an advert that is informative but very importantly clever is important. Having a successful social media campaign can save a fortune and also bring in a fortune if done correctly.

To make sure we don’t just waste time and space by simply having social media accounts we have to have an fun and interactive style of social media content. Videos leading up to the event, photos of what’s to come of the event and posting anything possible to make the patron feel part of what’s going on becoming more than just a spectator. Posting clips of the bands to come, posting photos of some of the art, food, fashion that will be displayed giving a small sense of feeling of what they can expect once Home Harvest Fest has begun.

We also made sure, in our group to come up with a place, time and date for Home Harvest Fest. Our group are very passionate and enthusiastic about the commending of local talent. This made working on our community arts project a lot easier.

Our event focuses on applauding the achievements of the local community. These achievements may include the cultivating of fresh produce, local bands, visual artists, writers, theatre talent and street performers. Home Harvest Fest will incorporate these elements for a fun-filled day of festivities, food vans and education/workshops for all ages!

To ensure these following factors are successful, the website of course will have to be aesthetically pleasing. People connect to visual design far more personal, in comparison to text, therefore, more images and less text. The website must be easily accessed, easy flow and direction, it must be able to be accessed from multiple devices, mobile phones, tablet and desktop. As we are trying to attract more than people involved within social media, we feel a website will be far more interactive and reach a wider audience, due to this we will also have a facebook page up and running, although my primary role will be the distribution of the website.

The website for Splendour in the Grass, is a festival that only functions in the month July every year. When the festival is no longer running, the website is no longer active. On top of the website there is also a facebook page active.

This website has a change of theme every year and is visually intriguing through the use of bright colours and strong direction. The website has a simple layout easy to explore and retain information needed by the consumer. These are some aspects my team will take on board to adopt into the website. It important that we make a visually pleasing site that excites, raises awareness and informs the consumer.

Music gets people in a good mood, and creates a great atmosphere. Almost any festival has music events involved. And what better way to celebrate local culture than with some great music acts? These acts serve to further the artistic profile of WA in the national and international performance scene. The involvement of street performers (magicians and the likes) also works towards this. Setting them up at various places around the festival also helps lend a traditional, market fair atmosphere to the wonderful world of Home Harvest. Pert has an abundance of great street performers, so what better way to showcase artistic talent than with our own homegrown performers? Atmosphere and Fun. That's why music and performance are not only helpful, but necessary for our festival.
