I was asked, on the spot, to ideate and present an original museum program (within the span of ~30 min. and no warning or direction for prep--which I 100% would have done!). I felt set up to fail given the way I process, and also it didn't feel like a fair measure of assessment for the type of work a museum educator typically does. Takeaway: Keep this in mind when I am in a position of power to interview.

This year, we really dug into it and looked at immigration. We used a unit called "Creating a Home for All" that is on the Re-Imagining Migration site from a high school teacher. And used various artworks and literature to explore the idea of Home first which then naturally led into thinking about immigration. We also connected into the Tenement Museum in NYC and their Your Story, Our Story exhibit. I am wondering how to add in some systems thinking into this as we use that in other areas. I also am starting to read more about the Migration Stories and am wondering how that can fit in.

I'm always interested in dichotomies. In today's video, I was struck how Richard Mosse talked about the competing uses of his camera/technology: "detect and track" and "search and rescue" and what he referred to as the "military-humanitarian complex." This sounds like an oxymoron and is something I'm going to need to think more about.
