Why do you think the author included the flashback in Chapter 2? What does it add/reveal?

I think the author included flashback in chapter 2 to hint at what is going to happen later on in the book. It might reveal something that is yet to happen or it might give you clues on what the character is going to do effecting something else in the book. The author also adds flashback to foreshadow some important event that is going to happen sooner or later in the book. To hint at the character or other character's personalities, behavior, or actions.
