After completing the Zoning table, please download the Site Plan dwg. file from the Course Shell, and start to do things like what you have been doing from ARCH121 and ARCH201: convert the existing Site Plan Layers to the ARCH program Layers, then simplify the drawing (meaning: Flatten the 3D elements into 2D in ACAD; and then, turn off Layers that you do not need--do NOT Erase Layers; next, apply Half-size CTB to test Print pdf and check the Line Weight/Line Type and so on).

When your Site Plan dwg is getting ready, and when you keep reading all needed documents that related to Schematic Design, please start to sketch out your school design on your Site Plan drawing.

You need to hand in ACAD format at Schematic Design stage, including Site Plan, two Floor Plans (single-line representing wall is good enough).

After this stage, you will need to draw your part of the School in Revit in 50% DD stage.

The following files were created using previous versions of Revit. You need to upgrade the model.

In the Drawing Window in each file, there are notes for each specific Wall Type.

Please check the 3D view along with the Elevation View. This will tell you the exact design idea of the specific Wall Type.

Take a look at each note and follow the step-by-step guide to draw each type of wall.

To use my files/walls in your own project:
First, open my rvt in one Drawing Window in Revit application, and open your design project rvt in another Drawing Window in Revit at the same time.
Next, "Drag" and "Drop" one of my wall types into your rvt
Drag meaning: select/pick the Object using the left key on your mouse, and do not release and keep press the left key
Drop meaning: release the Object at the location you want
You can just use your mouse to Drag/Drop--this is my favorite and easy technique, do not complicate yourself :-).
Then, you can use it like other Revit Wall Family that comes with the Template.
Finally, if the Drag/Drop does not work in your situation, you then need to use Insert. Or, just select one Wall Type from the Revit Template, and modify it according to the Wall Type Drawing sample posted on the Course Shell

You can follow these steps to create your own.

You do NOT need to draw like the files below. Just a good learning experience.

If you want to use new type of wall assembly for your design project, please follow the following steps:

3, choose the model/type of wall/material that you want to use
4, search for the specification (data sheet) for that wall/material
5, find its Details (normally in pdf, dwg, and rvt file format) that associated with the specific wall/material you plan to use
6, analyze the Specification and Details, compare them to your design project
7, apply the Details in your project--you can download and use the manufacture's rvt BIM directly in your project —MUST specify it if you use it!
8, must modify the Section Details as needed

You can find many elements there: the hollowcore slabs sit on top of the steel beams; how the steel beams are supported by steel columns; the brace structure elements (the diagonal ones) are added to provide extra structural support to the entire structural system; the roof drain and down pipe; OWSJs support the steel deck, and how OWSJs are being supported by steel beams

Pay attention to: the OWSJs are NOT supporting the hollowcore slabs. Why?

My husband and I thought that the new building design should follow the transitional design features so to integrate the new building in its surrounding environment

The elevation designs/materials selected (see picture below) followed key design elements from buildings in the campus. The new design indeed blended in really well with the existing environment

The building floor plan design used a "L" shape concept, in which one exit stair is located at each end of the wing (total 2), and also one exit stair is located at the center of the building (the tower).

The tower area worked as a "node" where students socialized with peers, also, students' washrooms/drinking fountains located in here.

The exterior corridor concept (not centralized corridor design) matched with the local climate (look at the palm trees at the court yard), and the corridors also had been designed wider to act as extra socializing area for students at breaks.

Climate-responded building orientation, natural lighting, nature ventilation and native vegetation concepts were implemented throughout the design

The first floor was half level above the grade and half level below grade so to create the ground (lower floor)—its headroom met the minimum Code requirement and was designed specifically for bicycle parking

Teacher's offices and administration functions located at other buildings. This building purely consisted of STEM classrooms.

The first design was so loved by all the stakeholders (client, staffs and students, ect) that the school later decided to "apply" the same design concept in 3 other academic buildings in the campus (below is one of them, but that's not our project/design).

Non-tiled elevation details from another building which was constructed years later (I forgot how many years later).

This "painted" method was a lot cheaper than the original tiled design, from both material and labor perspectives. However, the paint peeled off a few years later due to weathering/other factors, but the tiled-design (in the above pic) stays intact even today (I took all the pictures in the same day).

The amount of Detail Drawings in this project were immense, such as, in the below railing elevation, Details for tile arrangement/cutting/section/etc had provided. The contractor MUST followed through the drawings (they were required by the client too), which had significantly increased the material cost and labor cost.

This project could not accomplish/become a reality without the trust and cooperation from the client (not only the budget was well over the original estimate, but the support throughout the design/construction phases).

"Wing" design concept may work well in this project. As all the Kindergarten classrooms can be grouped into one wing, all G1-3 classrooms can be grouped as another wing, G4-6 is another wing, and G7-8 can form another wing.

The Pit is needed when you have the Elevator (under the Floor floor)-check the product's specifications from the Elevator manufacturers.

You can Insert this Family into your Revit, also, if the dimensions of this Pit does not match with the specifications of your Elevator, you can modify the Family's parameter.

Once Insert this rfa (the Model Element) into your rvt's floor slab (the Host Element), this Pit rfa will automatically "fit" (or, "cut" a hole) into your floor slab--exactly like, you insert a Window/Door rfa (the Model Element) in your Wall (the Host Element), the wall will be automatically "cut" a hole so to put the Window/Door model in the Host (your Wall).

Of course, if you do not want t inset this rfa, you can easily add a concrete wall/footing in your Revit model to create this Pit.

Scenario:
Assignment X requirement is to hand in Site Plan (SP), First Floor Plan (FFP), and Second Floor Plan (SFP).
The overall grade/mark for this assignment is 10, in which the SP weights 4 marks, FFP is 3 marks, SFP is 3 marks.
The grade I assign for each assignment is always ?/10. Then I convert this ?/10 into whatever weights the shows on the Course Shell.

Student A hand in this assignment with 3 drawings, SP+FFP+SFP, thus the quantity is 10. Next, the overall quality of this work is 80% (or, 8/10), then the grade for this assignment is 10X80%=8 marks.
So, if this assignment weights 20 on the Course Shell, student A will get 16 marks out of 20 marks for this assignment.

Student B hand in this assignment with 2 drawings, FFP+SFP, thus the quantity is 3+3=6 (note: 0 mark for not handing in the SP which tops at 4 marks). Next, the overall quality of this 2 drawings is 80% (or, 8/10), then the grade for this assignment is 6X80%=4.8 marks.
So, if this assignment weights 20 on the Course Shell, student A will get 9.6 marks out of 20 marks for this assignment.

Please remember, all these drawings must provide annotations (meaning: dimensions plus notes). Refer to student work samples.

For classroom design: refer to TDSB design guidelines, posts under the Column: Furniture-desk/chair-Schematic Design for various classroom's table/chair design layouts.

For washroom design: also, please re-check the 2 Columns: Washroom-Schematic Design, and Revit-Washroom Stall-DD. Please remember, the washroom stall is not a WALL, it is a partition. Right now also, it is a good time to double-check your # of plumbing fixture calculations

If you use Revit to do the Enlarged Floor plan, please use the "Call-out" function in rvt, see this "enlarged floor plan" similar to the "Plan Detail".

Assignment that only contains the floor plan drawing and elevation drawing, without annotations will get max. 50% of the grade.
For instance, this assignment weights 6 marks, if the assignment handed in has only the plans and elevations, w/o annotations, even the drawing itself is perfect, the grade for such assignment will get 3 marks max.

Providing the Site Statistic is a must! Refer to ARCH121 Statistics Table.

From grading perspective, general rule: the Site Plan itself is 50% and the Stat. Table is another 50%. Within the Site Plan, half mark goes to the drawing itself, half mark goes to all the annotations that should be provided.

More about grading
For instance, if this assignment weights 10 marks:
if the assignment hand in has only the site plan drawing, without annotations, no site stats, and if this site plan is perfect.
So the grading will be like the following:
Quantity: only the site drawing, quality of this site drawing is perfect
Calculation:
5 marks for Site Stats--no mark earned
5 marks for the Site Plan and annotations-2.5 marks earned bcs the Site Plan is perfect, no marks for annotation. If the Site Plan 's quality is not perfect, then this 2.5 marks' portion will get deduction
Therefore

The below drawing is from Paola Montenegro Rivera.
Paola created a number of "rooms" according to their correct sizes; and grouped rooms into various clusters according to their room functions. Like, all G1-3 together, all G4-6 together, etc.
This way, the designer can easily apply the "circulation--the corridor" concept and use the corridor(s) to link all clusters together to form a floor plan, and then put the floor plan over to the Site Plan to find out how "big" the building actually is compared to the Site Plan.
