Red Flag: Appeal to Authority
Definition: The appeal to authority red flag is when a company or group uses a person with authority (ex. person in a lab coat) to try and add credence to the product that they are trying to sell. Doctors and actors are used to endorse these products so more people in the general public will buy.
Connection: The connection between the video i have chosen and the appeal to authority red flag is: the item in this commercial being sold is toothpaste. So the advertising company used a man in a lab coat, who most of us would assume is a dentist, to endorse their product. Who would know what is best for our teeth? Who would we trust? A Dentist! Having a dentist endorsing this product which draw more potential buyers than if a Teacher was the main focus in the commercial.

Object: (Video)

Red Flag: All Natural
Definition: The all natural red flag is when a product uses this as its primary selling feature. All natural does not mean that it is a better product, or a product that us good for us at all.
Connection: This image connects to the All natural red flag because there is a pretty even divide of those who believe that all natural is a good thing and those who believe it is not. This image also shows that all natural is considered an "alternative" to the other products that may be currently on the market.
Object: (Image)

Red Flag: Suppression by Authorities
Definition: The suppression by authorities red flag is when a person or a group say that the only reason that their research or theories do not see the light of day or get the recognition they feel it deserves is because the authorities (scientists, police, government) do not take their claims seriously.
Connection: the connection between the image below and the red flag are that there are many people in the world that feel that they are experts in a given field. They feel that scientists are not experts, so their opinions and findings should count as much towards a theory as a scientists would.
Object: (Image)

Red Flag: Confirmation Bias
Definition: The confirmation bias red flag is when an individual only sees or hears the information that corroborates their belief. The times that the facts do not correlate with our beliefs, those times are tended to be overlooked and forgotten in the face of the facts that do make our belief seem true.
Connection: the connection between the image and the red flag is: when many people are looking for information on a topic, they generally only look for the arguments and proof that will support their belief system. Those articles that may disprove or debunk their ideas are never looked at or shared in the report that they have created in order to help prove their point.
Object: (Image)

Red Flag: Ideology
Definition: The set of beliefs, ideas and ideals that form personal goals, expectations and actions. This beliefs, ideas and ideals are followed regardless of what science says or has proved. These ideas and beliefs generally revolve around religion, politics and mainstream media. In many cases ethical decisions go hand and hand with the Ideology Support red flag.
Connection: the connection with the image below and the red flag of ideology is that there are a few in the world that feel/believe something is bad (ie. vaccines) so they choose to listen to non credible sources instead of the scientists that will be able to prove or disprove theories with legitimate facts and findings.
Object: (Image)

Reason For Belief: Unexplained
Definition: Items or events that scientists have not been able figure out as of yet. Generally these ideas have gone as "unexplained" for many years.
Connection: the image below is that of the Lost City of Atlantis. This is an example of the "unexplained" reason for beleif. No one knows for sure where this city is or if it even really existed. Many scientists and archeaologists have been searching for years. Maybe one day it is a mystery that can be solved.
Object:

Reason For Belief: Perception and Observation
Definition: Perception skills that we all have are generally skewed. Each person will see a situation differently from someone else. Each person sees a situation differently due to emotions and biases. Due to this, if 3 people see the same crime, there could be 3 different explanations of what happened, since they will all have different perceptions of what happened. Observation is what we physically see without emotions or biases clouding our views. Our memories are faulty, so observations made will not be 100% accurate.
Connection: The connection between the image and the reason for belief is that this clearly shows that 2 people van observe the same situation but have different perceptions. Each person is correct in what they saw, but their perceptions differ from one another.
Object: (Image)

Reason for Belief: Emotional Connection
Definition: Emotions can alter how a person sees an event or responds to one. Emotions can get in the way of common sense, and lead us to belief in something (ie. Medium/Psychic) when we may not have believed in them in other circumstances.
Connection: the connection between the image below and the reason for belief is that in many instances our hearts will lead our brains. When we are emotionally invested or compromised our hearts are what we will listen to over the brain.
Object: (Image)
