We of course tweaked the story bit and HAD to have mutant flies. We also had an experience when we relived the story, by laying back as if we were in bed, staring at our coordinate plane ceiling (grid tiles) and calculating the position and movements of the flies. The students had all bought in and most could recite the story months after the unit was over. I plan to try to develop some type of activity to help teach the "circle of 5th's" to students to help them with their key signatures and scales.  This is a necessary fundamental skill that is always hard to make exciting or engaging for the students when taught.  
My initial ideas are to have students represent the scales by physically standing in a circle or by having them utilize another motivator (candy?) to help understand how this works and to help them "experience" something that will ensure they remember what is being taught.

I also already have been utilizing march madness to create a fun competition for the students (using a bracket) to determine a "scale champion" for each class period.  That has gone over very well the past two years. I would recommend that anyone give it a try in your content area.
