Some people believe that music is the key to the soul. To others, it is just a fun way to pass the time. What either side can agree on, however, is that music was most prominent during the roaring twenties. This is where The Great Gatsby ties in. Music is significant in the novel because it played such a heavy role during the actual decade. It influenced the mood, the tone, and the actions of the characters in more ways than one. Music may just be the key to this novel.

With the creepy lyrics of the previous song, “Latch” matches it with its own lyrics, saying “Now I’ve got you in my space / I won’t let go of you / Got you shackled in my embrace / I’m latching on to you." This also shows Gatsby’s unhealthy obsession with Daisy, but still in an upbeat manner which is used to try and mask it as innocent love.

I chose this song because it reflects Gatsby’s emotions towards Daisy in the same light as “Three O’clock in the Morning”. It takes about “chasing love” had how “it is so wrong but feels so right”, just like what Gatsby struggles with.

Because of the lyrics, "At night when you're asleep/Into your tent I'll creep," it creates a very obsessive mood. That is the reason Fitzgerald included this. He wanted to show Gatsby's love for Daisy in a new light, more obsessive than pure.

This song creates an electric mood between Daisy and Gatsby. According to Nick, the "excitement was generating on the air". Fitzgerald included this specific song because it is fast-paced and would evoke happy and joyful emotions between Daisy and Gatsby.
