I’m ___________, a student researcher from UNC School of Nursing. Today, we are here to interview you about your experience as a first-year PhD student. You were selected because you are a student and a part of the UNC community. My role as the interviewer will be to ask you questions about your personal experiences and how the transition into your first year of the PhD program has influenced you mentally, emotionally, physically, and academically. You are welcome to use your real name or choose a different name to go by.

     

    Thank you for taking the time to participate in this interview. The purpose of this study is to better understand the experiences of first-year PhD students at UNC, including how the transition into doctoral studies impacts their mental, emotional, physical, and academic well-being. We aim to explore the challenges and supports that shape these experiences, as well as how the study environment and available resources influence students’ sense of balance and productivity.

    Your insight will help us gain a deeper understanding of what contributes to a positive and sustainable first-year experience for PhD students. The interview will last approximately 15–20 minutes. With your permission, we will record the session to ensure your thoughts are accurately captured.

    ·      Confidentiality (Remind him/her not to use his/her name or the names of other people and that he/she is free to skip any questions that he/she is not comfortable answering)
