On March 6th on 1965, in Alabama a group of white Alabamians from numerous counties, come to the aid of African Americans in the South. For one of the first times, white Southerners are coming to the defense of the African American community, rather then being at odds with them. This march lead by all white people helped demonstrate a partial change of heart that some of the white people in the community of Alabama established. The white Southerners appeared in front of the Dallas County Courthouse to make a statement to the nation, and the message was delivered with some use of force. For example, a photographer was slugged in the face, while another white protester knocked a stack of leaflets out of a demonstrators hand. The whites were going to use any tactic necessary, which happen to be force in this occasion. This differed from the protest African Americans would use because their focus was not to use violence in their protest, but be more peaceful.
These white people understood they had the option of resorting to violence to get their message across, and make known. This statement being made by the group of white Southerners, is that they are not accepting the current social norms that have become accustom over a period of time, due to segregation laws. The white group challenged the judgment of not just the state of Alabama, but the nation as well. Injustices such as police brutality, and the right to vote, which African Americans did not have at the time came to light in the statement made by the group in the Courthouse. The actions of these whites did not go unnoticed, as African American by standers commented "You people are taking a tremendous step here today". This helped reassure to the African Americans that they are not alone in this fight against segregation and equality. It has not been unlikely for the African American community to receive help from other sources, such as white people. In previous times going back to slavery, whites were able to assist blacks in getting freedom. They would help blacks escape from ships carrying slaves that were being transported to plantations, and other various areas of the world. Whites were able to do this because they had the freedom blacks did not have restrictions on them like African Americans did, and they essentially had the access to opportunities that African Americans were limited to. Not only did whites have the access to certain things, but they had the basic rights that African Americans were fighting for. Compared to the tactics used by whites in previous times, whites during this time resorted to protesting in front of the Courthouse because it was the most efficient option fit for the situation. They also realized that it would bring the most attention to the problem at hand, with the hope that people would re-think their judgment on African Americans. This incident brought light to the reoccurring issue that blacks were trying to fight.

Help From the Whites

White people served a big role of assistance for the blacks fighting against segregation during the civil rights movement. This sense of aid from the whites are similar to the efforts of whites making escape routes for slaves and creating schools to give blacks equal opportunities in the past. During this time black people felt that the whites that were not speaking out against racism were racist as well even if the white person was not practicing racism first hand. The efforts of white people joining in protests and march's pulled a large amount of weight in the movement. Taking a stance against the white social norm was a dangerous move that took a lot of courage. While a lot of white peers would shame them for betrayal; In most cases white people at least had more of an opportunity to be heard when expressing their views unlike blacks that instead would be assaulted by whites with the assistance of police officials.

How the Great Migration Ties into This (watch up to 30 sec)

The great Migration resulted in many African-Americans leaving the South to reside in the North. This occurred because African-Americans were tired of having to deal with the harsh laws of the South that segregated them from the White economically, and also did not allow fro proper school systems for African Americans. As African-Americans relocate to the North, they begin to make a living for themselves and find jobs which boosted the economic conditions of the North further. More children were going to schools and much more blacks were become employed. As the whites of the South began to see the improvements of the North, especially economically, they may have discovered the importance of African-Americans of the economy . African-Americans who migrated to the South were most likely not employed in wealthy jobs, instead they had low paying jobs, but enough to support their families and keep a roof over their heads. The whites of the South realised their importance and some began to advocate for the freedom and liberation of blacks in the South. This would appeal to the blacks to remain in the South and work cheap labor, but enough income to support their families, in return the whites of the South would profit economically and reboot their economy to match the Norths. It was almost like a bargain, "we fight for you and advocate for your freedom so long as you stay and work in the South".
