John (Girl) Homeless

When I graduated from Sigma Alpha Special Education University, I really thought life was about to finally cut me a break. Instead, I bought 500 lottery tickets like an idiot and made fifty dollars. I looked at that sad money and just said:

“Speed please, I need this — I am kinda homeless.”

That was the point my brain just tapped out.:wilted rose

I tried to hustle by making omelettes to sell at a homeless shelter. Before I could even open my mouth, someone grabbed the whole tray and walked off. Omelettes gone, plan gone, dignity gone. Somehow, I ended up homeless too. Desperate, I walked into a government office looking like a walking disaster and asked for a thousand bucks. They actually gave it to me. I think the guy just didn’t want to deal with me longer than necessary.

I used the money to enroll at O-Block University and study computer science. Half the time I was so tired I’d see weird things — like Hitler and Stalin in the library arguing like two washed-up uncles at a barbecue. Hitler tripped over a chair, Stalin called him stupid, and the librarian yelled at me like I was the problem. I think he just wanted to shout at hitler but was dyslexsic so thoguht that hitler was written as John.

Then I met John (Boy) Homeless eating noodles out of a measuring cup outside the cafeteria. We talked, and somehow, we just clicked — two broke people trying to keep existing.

Slowly, we dragged ourselves out of the mess. Not pretty, not dramatic, just survival.

A young girl was sitting next to a cold wall on the quiet side of the street, with her dog resting quietly under her lap. Her name was Anna. She came here all the way from Ukraine because of the war. Her story was heartbreaking; actually, she was the daughter of the Minister of Defence. However, when the war came, Russian soldiers killed her family, and she had to escape in a panic with only her dog. She fell apart completely because of the tragic death of her family.

Now, she is selling small handmade colored candles to survive and hoping to live in better conditions one day. While she was waiting for customers, an old man with luxurious clothes approached her. He looked at her kindly and asked, "What is your problem, young lady?"

Anna answered with a trembling voice, "I had to leave my country because of the war. Now I must sell these candles to survive which I am not sure that I could."

The old man saw the deep desperation in her eyes. Ignoring his expensive suit, he sat right next to her on the pavement and asked, "How did you end up in this place? What happened to you?" She glanced at him, took a deep breath, and told him everything. She was trying so hard to hold back her tears, but the memories were heavy. The old man listened silently, putting a comforting hand on her shoulder, promising that she would not have to fight this battle alone anymore. Girl looked at him with desperate eyes, and for the first time since the war she felt safe.

Selahattin Ünal&Ömer Faruk AKCA

Alinda? is kinda homeless

Alinda was a normal girl living in New York studying in a state university. She didn't earn much money from her part-time job and usually struggled with making ends meet. She would do everything she can to save money like eating instant ramen or not eating at all. But one time, she decided to buy a lottery ticket in hopes of winning. A few days later, she was chilling on the couch when the TV announced the lottery winners. She was waiting for the announcement to finish so she could continue watching her favourite film but all of a sudden her name was called out on TV and she heard that she won 1,676,676 dollars(after tax). This amount of money changed her life drastically.

The first thing she did was to buy a car, rented a luxury home, buy new clothes and lots of different stuff. She started living like royalty, buying the most expensive stuff, going to expensive places. She was enjoying herself so much that she didn't realise she had already spent most of her money. But she didn't want to go back to her old life so she didn't lower her spending.

After a few months she had used up all the money she got from the lottery. She couldn't pay for groceries, car payments, or rent. After not paying her rent for a few months she was kicked out from her house and she couldn't find any other place so she became homeless. She couldn't afford gas money and her car payments were too large. So she had to sell her car to afford basic needs. But because she left her job after winning the lottery, she didn't have any income or savings.

Because of her illogical spending, once who lived in luxury ended up on the streets begging for money. She regrets her careless spending every day and wishes she can go back(she can't though).

-Emir Efe und Kağan Kavçakar

It was 4 months ago when Burak decided to go to TÜBİTAK Science High School, thinking it would be the greatest choice of his life. When summer ended and he went there, it was nothing like he imagined. Everyone understood the lessons, got good grades, studied even in the breaks. He was nothing like them. He couldn’t catch up. He felt like he didn’t belong there, like he was the only unintelligent student.

There was a data science teacher, Mr. Information, known for his hard exams. Even the hardworking students got scores below 90. Burak didn’t know he would be kicked out if he failed. He didn’t study for the exam, thinking it would be okay, and he failed. He was shocked.

When the school decided to expel him and his parents heard it, they didn’t listen. They shouted, called him lazy, said he had ruined his future. Home, which once felt safe, became another place where he felt like a failure. After days of arguments and silence, Burak packed a small backpack and left.

He stayed on his friend’s home for a while but he knew that he couldn’t stay there forever. He couldn’t find a job, no one would employ him because he was just a child but he needed that money to continue his education.

After a while, he felt embarrassed and left his friend’s home. He was sleeping in the streets with no money. He begged for hours each day saying “Please, I need this. I am kinda homeless.”. Most of the strangers would walk past him without even looking at him. He had believed that high school would shape his entire life. It did, but not in the way he had expected.

There was a girl called Leela who living in New York City. She was 19. She was the biggest child of a middle income family which has 2 sons and a daughter. But she didn't know that one day she was walking to school was going to change her life.

"It was a terrible monday and five english classes in a row again." she said while she was walking to her school.

She stepped on something that isn't similar to asphalt and fell down. She was furious and she picked it up. It was

a kind of a ticket. A lottery ticket. She said "it belongs to who found it." and contunied to her terrible monday.

when she arrived at home at 4 pm there was 1 hours left to announcement of lottery winners. Of course

she didn't know it. The announcement started at 5 pm. She went to living room where her dad was watching the live

stream of the lottery announcement. She saw the numbers of the winning ticket and saw that it looked similar to the

ticket she found on the way to her school. She checked it and saw that she won the lottery. But she didn't scream

because she knew that her dad would get her money. She left the house in a hurry and went to collect her prize.

She got the money but she was never going to head back to home. She didn't want to give her money. She started living a luxury life without even picking up her family's calls. She bought so many stuff she didn't need. But she

miscalculated that the money she won was not infinite. End of that year only quarter of her many left. She started

to panic and she invested her money to tugrulcoin. But in half a month tugrulcoin lost %90 of its value.

       In the end

everything Leela had was seized. She didn't have a house, a car, anything but her dog Turgut. Nowadays she is living

life in streets with a great regretion.

By: Muhammed Ali and Tuğrul Emre

This girl named Emma was homeless. She always sat near our apartment and talked about homelessness and joblessness to people who walked near her especially to people who lived in our apartment. People found this talks unsympathic and irritating so they wanted her to go. They called the police over and over again but these calls didn't change the situation because there was no laws about homelessness. So I -the futures president- went to the law school to be a politician and legistate a law about homelessness. After many years I finally became a good politician and I was a candidate for elections. I made ads all around the country and I said to my followers "We will have no homeless people in our country". This somehow worked and after 4 years I became the president and finally legistated the law that made every homeless an exile to our neighbouring country. After that our neighbouring country said "Take the exiles back or we will go into war". I didn't care and over that I started the war myself. We battled for about 67 years. After all that I thought about launching a nuke so I launched. But our neighbouring country also thought about same thing at the same time so our nukes collided in the middle of the air and exploded. This created a MASSIVE gas cloud over the atmosphere. Because of that nearly all humans died due to radioactivity. I am one of the survivors who is here to tell you the story about the end of the humanity. But on the bright side there is no homeless people right? Right...?

As a homeless girl with no one to rely on, I wandered through the noisy streets of the city with only an old, gentle dog who had started following me one cold night. We were both poor, hungry, and tired, sharing whatever scraps we managed to find. Even though life was hard, the dog’s warm presence helped me feel less alone. Instead of ignoring me like most people did, he looked genuinely concerned. He approached slowly so he wouldn’t scare me or my dog. After a moment, he said i look beautiful and kindly asked if I needed help. I wanted to say no, either out of pride or fear, but the kindness in his voice made something in me relax.
The Extremely Devastating Story of Meredith Lynn

When I graduated from university as a computer science major, I moved to New York City in hopes of pursuing my dreams of becoming a software engineer. I aimed to get interviews with companies in the area. I reached out to many companies while living in my apartment with my dog, Marcelius, working a minimum wage job until I got a job offer.

A few months passed, and I had still not gotten a job offer. I was starting to get extremely worried as I was accumulating more and more debt to the point my landlord kicked me out. I reached out to a few friends in the area, but no one had space for me. Still, one of my friends was able to take me into their apartment as a roommate every weekend, but that still meant I had to live on the streets on the weekdays. Naturally, after my boss found out I was homeless, I was fired in no time. This sequence of events extremely devastated me: I had nowhere to stay, no job, and Marcelius had an owner that is -kind of- homeless!

Another six months had passed. During this time, my so-called friend didn't want a dog in their house, so we got kicked out. Now me and Marcelius were out living in the streets. We found a relatively cosy place outside of 8 Stone to stay in. I made a small tent-like structure using old sheets from my previous apartment. I thought this wouldn't be too bad, I believed I would be out of the streets in no time!

Now here we are today, I am still on the streets. I can barely feed myself, let alone Marcelius. I wake up, carry the shopping cart carrying all my belongings around, trying to make a living. Every day I go back to my "home" to sit down, and think about where I went wrong in life.

My name is Puck. Back then i was happy and i was enjoying my life. Me and my owner were in a good condition. I was eating good quality meats like chicken and beef. my owner was so happy too. She was playing with me all afternoon. I think this joyful life would stood forever but one day everthing changed.

It was a cold and rainy autumn day. I was think about going for a walk but when i saw the rain I was a little upset. Then i heard that my owner was talking on the phone I went next to her. She said she gambled and lost her car, lots of money and some of her essentials too. I thinked about a minute why humans gamble. You just lost everthing. Then she went to the luqior store. When she came back she brought a lot of alcholic drinks. All week she didn't play with me. She even sometimes forgot to give me food. She bought alchol to forget all about but money is not endless. So one day she run out of money. She said she couln't live wothout alchol. She was gone again. When she came back she was very upset. While she was gambling she lost the house, the furniture and any other valuable thing we had. When they came to get the house our street journey begin.

First times we had a hope. She was skillful in many areas but no body accepted her. She tried every way to gain money. But nothing happened. At the night she was crying about her bad habits. After 3-4 days our hope was finnished. I started to look for food on trashs. But humans were scary. I was looking for food for my life but the humans were throwing rocks at me or chasing me. While i was trying to find food she was begging for money.

From that time we are living living like that. Omne time in a month she buys me some meat for a prize. I wish she didn't gambled and drinked too much. But we find a way to live and when we are next to each other nothing in hand. I'm glad to see her happy. I hope our life gets better soon.

-Ahmet emir, Civan

It was a regular day in the city there were streets were filled with cars and crosswalks filled with humans. Everything was looking normal but there was a girl who was sitting in the dark corner of the street. She didn’t looked like an ordinary homeless she was holding a piece of cardboard written “Hungry, Please Help, God Bless You” although she was holding it she didn’t seem like she was begging for money and the proud in her eyes was clearly visible. Just she seemed like she wasn’t in the right place that she should be.

A well dressed stranger showed up and asked “Who are you?” And girl ignored the man. “Who are you?” repeated the man. “Ivy.” said the girl. Ivy asked for the strangers name but there was no reply.

After a long silence man said “I would like to keep my name as a secret for now.” Ivy felt a bit uncanny but he felt a weird warmth while speaking to the man. He looked like he was in his mid fifty’s and had a well-shaved white beard on his not wrinkled face. Then they started to talk all of a sudden. After some talk Ivy started to tell her story. “I was getting ready for the olympics but I had a serious injury that I can’t recover. The doctors said if I continued gymnastics I couldn’t be able to use my leg again.

After that I quit gymnastics and never returned. I had a big conflict with my family and I left the home.” Ivy started sobbing and said “They just loved me, no just appreciated me for my achievements I just felt that they were just keeping me in their house because I was successful.”

She suddenly rubbed her eyes and said “Sorry that I disturbed but it just sometimes makes me feel bad when I think about my family didn’t loved me, loved my achievements.”

The stranger hugged Ivy and Ivy was instantly filled with warmth happiness and hope she closed her eyes with peace. When she opened her eyes she saw that the sun has left its place to the moon.

She was surprised that she fell asleep an slept for hours. She tried to find the man but she couldn’t . the only thing left from the man is the hope and warmth that he put in her heart.

Berk TOPALOĞLU

-should give credits to Tolstoy's What Men Live By story, a little inspired

Education Should Help Students Become More Resilient

Education is the best way of learning life. Schools are not the place that everbody just studies to get their jobs. School means experience. Because of that education must help students become more resilient.

Nowadays students studies very hard for exams for homeworks etc. So they forget about the real life. Some of them don't know how to cook something to eat when there is no one to cook or some of them don't know how to wash dishes so education must teach about chores and simple errunds. Also education must teach what to do when they're in trouble. About thieves gangsters etc.

Education must teach to solve problems. Students have to learn how to solve problems by themselves in todays world. A one new reason to increase resilience in education is lack of self-confidence. Students are very shy to talk and show their feelings and abilities to new people. So education can make them lose their shyness.

Education should develop students' social environment and teamwork. Students should be enabled to perform better in group work. The right to find their own justice and defend their rights is also important. The state should work to ensure that students acquire these skills. Finally, students should be helped to control themselves in moments of anger or depression.

So all of these reasons are showing that resilience is one of the most important points of the education. Academic Succcess means nothing when the students are not resilient. Governments must take control and make the education system with more activites to increase resilience.

Ahmet Emir Gürsoy

Should Education Teach Resilience?

Education, besides teaching essential knowledge, is a crucial part of developing a child’s personality. Therefore, education should focus on developing resilience, as it plays a crucial role in shaping the future of children.

Firstly, resilience teaches problem-solving, emotional regulation, and determination. A person with resilience can face and fight back against their problems. In a world where children may face academic pressure and social or personal difficulties, they must learn how to remain calm and collected when facing their problems. For example, when a resilient student fails an exam, instead of losing their motivation and giving up, they accept their loss and work on improving it. By using resilience, they are able to overcome the difficulty and improve.

Second, resilience helps students in the long run. Managing multiple assignments and deadlines can be exhausting for students. However, resilient students are more capable of adapting to the high-pressure schedule, and this provides them a benefit. Furthermore, since these students have already developed and used their resilience, they will also be able to cope with their future work environment. This is an example of how fostering resilience in a student provides them an advantage not only in their academic lives, but also in the long run.

In conclusion, resilience is an important trait that must be encouraged in children, and education is a great way to do this. By teaching children how to adapt to, cope with, and fight back against their difficulties, we are making sure they will grow up to be more capable and confident.

-Teo Can HAMAMCI

The Importance Of Teaching Resilliance In School

The primary purpose of education has traditionally been to teach academic knowledge. However, in today's world whose rapidly changing and stressful academic success alone is not enough. I strongly agree that education should help students become more resilient because it enables them to face with academic failures and prepares them for the challenges of adult life.

First of all, fostering resilience in schools helps students manage academic pressure and overcome failures constructively. Throughout their education, students face difficult exams and demanding projects which can lead to stress; resilience teaches them to bounce back from these setbacks rather than giving up. Furthermore, viewing failure as a learning opportunity rather than a defeat encourages a growth mindset, which is essential for long-term academic improvement.

Other than that the education system has a responsibility to prepare individuals for the harsh conditions of the professional world. In their future careers, students will naturally face rejections, criticism, and complex problems that require emotional strength to solve. If schools only focus on grades and don't care about the emotional durability, students may graduate with high marks but crumble under the psychological pressures of the workplace.

At the end, education should be the process that develops both the mind and the character. By teaching resilience, schools ensure that students can handle academic stress and are ready for future professional hurdles. Therefore, building mental toughness should be the focus.

-Ömer Faruk AKCA

Should Education Make Students More Resillient

A large group in the population think that it is not the main target of education to help students become more resillient. But apart from them I do think it is the major way for a student to get prepared for mental and physical strength. During your lifetime you need to be on your guard against all the challanges that you may face.

Although you can learn how to be more resillient on your own its obvious that getting help from your educational process is a faster and effective way. First of all when you study with teachers and instructors you can learn different methods how to deal with tough situations. Their experiences actually enlighten your way and they basically become tutors. Think that what they had lived gives you a shortcut or guides you to act logically and sensibly. For instance the communication and interaction that you had with your teachers could help you when you try to manage in a similar occasion.

Additionally I believe in the strength of schooling cause it provides a person to become more confident due to their involvement in their school culture. All around the world we can encounter best-known schools which are preferred because they supply a great improvement in their students personality and qualifications. Being a part of these institutes provides a great advatantage against obstacles. I also want to state that knowledge is power which can not be easily taken away from you. Knowledge gives you wisdom and makes you stay stable and calm even in the most stressful cases.

To sum up with education is your most powerful key that can open every “resillient” door. In each single step of your existence you might feel the strength of your educational process if you had gotten the desired qualifications.

Selahattin ÜNAL

The main purpose of schools has always been to teach them about science and maths but this shouldn’t keep going like that. Students need resilience more and more everyday because of the psychological and social reasons of the modern life.

First of all students spend most of their time at school and they work really hard for exams and homework. This require so much psychological strength so if they need to learn to be more resilient they need to learn it at school. The education of resilience should start at a young age to make it easier to learn.

Second reason is that children are changing. Bullying is now a global problem and students need to be strong if they don’t want to be heartbroken. Bullying is seen to be more at the public places like schools so schools should give educational resilience classes and also make bullies better people.

The last reason to teach resilience at schools is that students are not just going to face with psychological problems and bullying at school. They are also going to face with these problems at their adult and work lives. Stundents should learn to face with these problems from a young age so they won’t have a hard time overcoming these situations. There is even a saying in Turkish: “A tree is bent while it is young”

Tuğrul Emre Akar
