"NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION" this was a rallying cry the colonists began to chant; they believed their local govt. systems should be the one placing taxes. The Stamp Act Protest that the colonists started resulted in the Brits enforcing standing armies among the colonies. Finally in 1776 the Parliament repealed the act.
The Townshend Act (1767) was enforced to place taxes on glass, paints, tea, lead, and paper. However by 1770, it was repealed.
Intolerable acts lead to the closing of the Boston Harbor (one of the largest ports for merchants) and allowed the officers to quarter troops.

This was the beginning of the Stamp Act Congress which was used to try and apply certain changes to colonies due to the large amount of taxes being paid.
The Sons of Liberty was created to enforce boycotts on the British Parliament. "Anti-Parliament" was commonly printed in newspapers.
The First Continental Congress was a response to the intolerable acts. The group decided to boycott British goods and no longer send goods to England.
The Second Continental Congress was brought together before the war of Lexington and Concord. In 1776, the congress some how breaks ties with Britain. This becomes the overall government for the 13 colonies.
