OBJECTIVE:

Each PYP ATL main subskill should include at least one explicit activity for every grade level (the final product of the three steps). The activity from one grade to the next must have an appropriate progression. There should be no gaps in the skill development.

NOTE:

One of the ATL subskills involving mathematics have been provided as an example.

MAIN GOAL:

All ATL skills must be addressed throughout the entire school year.

Project: Students create a clay relief artwork.

• Collaborate with IT subject to do research. Students will search for the flag of certain country in the internet. They can also search the culture or pattern or some objects that related with the country.

• Students use the color of the country's flag as a color guide for their clay relief project and they can use the objects/ pattern they found in the internet as the guide for the shapes/ image of the clay relief project.

Topic : whole numbers and decimal multiplication

·Students create an interesting simulated "store" poster with price tags for each item and showing the price in decimals (dollar) with at least 5 items. (research skill)

The customer (other friend) will put their shopping list on that poster (at least buy 3 items). (social skills)

Then the store owner will calculate the total sale price then create 4 word problems based on the shopping list with its solutions. (critical thinking skill)

Finding peaceful solutions to conflict leads to a better quality of human life.

• The teacher provides a fantasy story that has transformation in it, e. g. Beauty and The Beast

• Once students understand the story, in groups they analyze the main character's transformation (The Beast: prince--> beast)

• Students must use logic and evidence (textual support) to narrow down the many possible events into the few, correct turning points.

• Students analyze a text and must agree on the most critical cause-and-effect events leading to the transformation. They must use specific quotes or paraphrased details to prove their choices are correct.

Step 3 : Teacher Instructions

During this unit, students will practice Information-literacy research skills while learning about celebrations from China, Korea, Japan, and Thailand. They will begin by formulating and planning their inquiry, deciding what they want to find out from pictures, videos, and simple texts. Then, they will gather and record data by observing symbols, clothing, and traditions from each celebration and noting their findings through drawings or simple words. Next, students will synthesize and interpret the information by discussing what each celebration means and how they are similar or different. Finally, they will evaluate and communicate their learning by sharing one key fact with the class, showing how research helps them understand cultural celebrations.
