Due to similar alliances already being established before the war, Germany's allied included Italy and Austria-Hungary, where as France, Britain and England saw the rising military power of Germany threatening. But most other European nations were in a neutral relationship with the German empire.

After the war almost all European nations looked down upon the former German Empire. Italy had left the Triple Alliance and joined the Triple Entente or Allies. Russia had a neutral standpoint with both Germany and Austria, but France and England still majorly resented the country. -During the war Germany could not import or export industrial goods.
-Germany also severely limited trade and diverted all available resources to the war effort.
-By the end of the war, Germany was no where near being the second most economically advanced nation.
- The war guilt clause, ordered Germany to pay large reparations to the allies, money they did not have as they were in debt because of the war.
