Florence Nightingale challenged conventional thought surrounding infection and healing in soldiers during the Crimean War. While many felt soldiers died as a result of wounds, her education, training, and curiosity led her to collect important data that propelled the nursing profession in improving patient care, and paved the way for evidence based practice.

BBC.

Everyone brings different ideas and solutions to the table because everyone is unique in their own way. It is important for us as leaders and nurses to recognize there is more than one way to tackle challenges as nurses, and differences in the way we care for our patients as every patient has unique needs. Ensuring a well rounded, diverse, and inclusive team allows for the greatest collaboration. Being open to new ways of thinking and new evidence based practice, innovative ideas, and challenging how things have always been done, brings opportunity for improvement and positive change.

Association of American Medical Colleges.
