The Circuit Story Board by Brenda Zamora

Create a storyboard that covers each of the 9 chapters that we have read so far. Each table group is responsible for working on a specific chapter. The goal is for students to write chapter summaries that capture the gist of important events. Refer to your chapter summaries but DO NOT copy them. Collaborate and participate with your team members to write the most concise and detailed summary!

Francisco and his family are back in Corcoran picking cotton; before this they were in Fowler for grape season.

Here's the thing about Corcoran: it's super rainy. And that means everyone has to stay inside their cabins. But the best part about staying inside is that Francisco gets to check out the awesome goldfish that the folks have next door. He and his mom love to look through their window and watch that little bugger swimming around, so they give it a special name: el Angel de Oro (a.k.a. The Golden Angel).

Francisco is going to go to a new school now that he's back in Corcoran, and on his first day he meets a new friend, Miguelito, who also lives in the cotton labor camp.

Miguelito is pretty great, and he and Francisco hang out at the creek behind the cabins and check out the little fish; Miguelito breaks off branches that they can turn into fishing poles.

It's all going fine and dandy until the next day. When Francisco looks for Miguelito, he and his whole family have already left the camp.

Francisco doesn't know where they went, which means we don't know either, but one thing's for sure: losing a friend is a big downer.

Once it stops raining in Corcoran, Francisco notices that the water is drying up and that means the fish in the puddles are now dying in the mud. He tries to move as many as he can to the creek, but he leaves one fish in a can outside the cabin with the goldfish. You can guess where that little grey fish ends up—right in the bowl with the Golden Angel.

Francisco sends his fishing pole down the creek, too.

In this chapter, the family was preparing to leave Corcoran in December, and a couple attempted to sell items to them. Papa stated that they're too poor to afford any of the items. The man pulled out a white embroidered handkerchief, and begged Papa to buy it. Mama thought that it was absolutely beautiful; however; they said they can't afford it. Papa walked the couple out of the door, and bought the handkerchief for Mama. On Christmas day, they found only a bag of candy for Francisco, Roberto, Trampita, and Torito. Papa then surprised Mama with the handkerchief, and that was Christmas Gift.

Quote: "To be a poor man is hard, but to be a poor race in a land of dollars is the very bottom of hardships." We chose this quote because it relates well with the book. They may be a poor family; however; they try their hardest to make the best of things.

Francisco had a bird called '' El Perico'' Who one of Papa's brought from Mexico. He was the family's pet. He would always be walking around or talking. El Perico made a friend, a cat. Her name was Catarina. El Perico and Catarina were so close that when they weren't together they would get upset. One day Catarina's owners came without her so El Perico started to shriek. Papa got so mad that he got the broom and started hitting the parrot. Francisco saw how blood came out his beak. He just saw how his own dad killed his only friend. He ran to a shed and started to pray for El Perico. They buried El Perico in a cigar box and they did a cross and put were El Perico was buried was. They visited his grave every single day.
Quote: ´´ El Perico, my close friend, had a tragic ending.´´ We picked this quote from the book because it talks about how he was Francisco's friend and how he had a tragic ending which is what the chapter is about.

In this chapter Francisco and his family had to move but Francisco is tired of moving back and forth to different places and starting new different schools. The next day they start working for a guy called Mr.Sullivan they start working but picking grapes is such a difficult job because of all the steps they have to do with the grapes. After all the grapes are stripped Roberto and his family start picking cotton and Francisco starts school. He is really nervous because he has to learn how to speak english again. He is put in a sixth grade class with a teacher named Mr.Lema one point in class Mr. Lema calls him to read and Francisco freezes up and stutters to say the words. Later on at lunch he ask if Mr. Lema could help him learn new words in the book and how to read english. It has been one month of Mr. Lema working with him and Mr. Lema then offers to teach him how to play the trumpet. Later that day he finds out he is moving again.

Quote: "I have a lot to be thankful for. I am healthy, happy and I am loved."
We choose this quote because he was able to get help from Mr.Lema. He is healthy because he is getting a good education and even though he is poor they are succeeding. He is happy and very loved by his family.

In this chapter Francisco's family just moved to California and they had asked him to watch over Trampita while they go pick cotton, later on that day Francisco left Trampita in the car so he can pick cotton to but then he had completely forgotten about him, then when his parents came back they found Trampita alone in the car with his milk spilled everywhere. Eventually Francisco came back, his mother with an angry face and yelled "I told you to take care of Trampita" Francisco proud but a little scared said" I picked cotton" he held up the bag and showed it to Papa Francisco was sad after looking at his fathers face which was happy but then turned into a look of disappointment for there had been little piles of dirt in the bag of cotton.

Quote:
Someday, I will get to pick cotton with you (Roberto) , Mama, and papa, then I wont be left alone.
We picked this quote because it states that Francisco doesn't want to be alone again, and soledad means loneliness.

In this chapter you, might ask ¨What is the chapter about.¨ Well we will tell you. So at first in "Miracle in Tent City" is that they were talking about tent city paragraph one states-" We called it Tent City. -" .Torito got sick and mama and papa made a promise to el santo nino de atocha that they would pray to him for a whole year when Torito gets better. Papa and mama did not want Torito to go in the hospital because they don't have the money for it so it would not be paid for. So mama and papa would go to the hospital like everyday to make sure he is getting better and that he can be taken care of and his sickness will go away. Francisco tells us a bit about the place in Santa Maria where he lives. They call it Tent City because it's a bunch of tents, but it's not exactly it's own city; adding to its charm is the fact that the city dump is nearby. Mamá and Papá don't want to take Torito to a hospital, because they don't have money. But there's a woman in Tent City named Doña María who's got her own ways for curing folks; she tries rubbing some eggs on Torito's stomach. Sadly he gets stiff again so Mamá and Papá rush him to the hospital.
