Attitude and skill to encourage students
Be able to value the idea that students have control over what they will do and how they behave

How to promote inquiry-based learning:
- make changes SLOWLY until students are comfortable
- ask open-ended questions!
- give them time to think!
- paraphrase don't criticize!
- stay objective!
- maintain a disciplined environment!

1. Inquiry often requires hypothetical/deductive reasoning.
2. Concrete thinkers have a great deal of difficulty developing an understanding of abstract concepts.

Solution:
Find middleground, tasks mustn't be too easy or too difficult
must be feasible
variation in classroom as to when and who does which activity --> not all at the same time!
