This is an excellent example of colour writing for a number of reasons, the first being that it describes a specific scene. Also, we are given a good sense of the sounds of the scene, in which we get a humorous picture of TD's partaking in serious debate only to be interrupted by a phone ringing. A third key point I picked up on was the high degree of dialogue in the scene, in which a variety of different voices, with different perspectives on this funny issue. This is a fascinating article about the tragic death of a young girl in 1980's rural Ireland in horrifying circumstances. Posted on March 24 2018 by Rosita Boland, not even two months later on May 5 2018, Boland went on to write about Ann's former boyfriend Ricky McDonnell who spoke publicly at this time to the Irish Times for the first time ever. Boland's intro; "the repercussions of her death continue to resonate powerfully in Irish society, more than three decades later." is a powerfully poignant statement. At time of publication, Ann's 50th birthday would have taken place in April.
