Sometimes fighting isn't the answer and if you try other ideas like talking to the person to try to make things better instead of going to violence at the first sign of danger. I think that Alec needs to realize that other wise he will most likely get killed. It doesn't tell the reader the thought behind the name. There are so many different things that they could have named it yet they picked to call it the Flare. I had this question in the other books of how they got that name because the books just picked up in the middle of all of the excitement.
