         <description><![CDATA[<div>FUNCTION:&nbsp; It belongs to the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limbic_system">limbic system</a> and plays important roles in the consolidation of information from <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short-term_memory">short-term memory</a> to <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long-term_memory">long-term memory</a> and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spatial_memory">spatial navigation</a>.&nbsp; When the hippocampus dysfunctions it brings on a condition called 'Dave Syndrome'. You use it to make decisions, such as what to eat or drink for breakfast in the morning, as well as for thinking or studying for a test. The frontal lobe is also where our personality is formed and where we can carry out higher mental processes such as planning. In addition, the frontal lobe is necessary to being able to speak <em>fluently</em>(without fault) and meaningfully. <br>LOCATION:<br>The <strong>frontal lobe</strong>, <strong>located</strong> at the <strong>front</strong> of the brain, is one of the four major<strong>lobes</strong> of the cerebral <strong>cortex</strong> in the mammalian brain. The <strong>frontal lobe</strong> is<strong>located</strong> at the <strong>front</strong> of each cerebral hemisphere and positioned in <strong>front</strong>of the parietal <strong>lobe</strong> and above and in <strong>front</strong> of the temporal <strong>lobe</strong>.<br>DISFUNCTIONS:<br><strong>Cerebrovascular disease</strong> may cause a stroke in the frontal lobe. Tumours such as <strong>meningiomas</strong> may present with a frontal lobe syndrome. Frontal lobe impairment is also a feature of Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal<strong>dementia</strong> and Pick's disease.<br><br><br>Frontal lobe history and tests<br>Personality changes (over familiar, tactless and sexual indiscretions) Hyperorality Distractibility Poor motivation Inability to adapt to new situations Poor problem solving skills<br>Tests • Abstract thinking:<br>Proverb interpretation<br>“People in glass houses should not throw stones at others” Similarities test<br>“What are the similarities between apple and banana/table and chair”?<br>• Verbal fluency: FAS test. Judges ability to generate categorical lists<br>Ask the patient to lists words beginning with letter F in one minute. Same with letter A and S. Normal adult should be able to list 15 words/letter in one minute. Total FAS words &gt; 30. For elderly 10 words/letter/minute is acceptable.<br>• Motor sequencing:<br>Luria’s three-step test. Tell the patient that you are going to show them a series of hand movements. Demonstrate fist, edge and palm five times on your leg without verbal prompts. Ask the patient to repeat the sequence.<br>• Go no go test:<br>Ask the patient to place a hand on the table. Tap under the tale. Tell the patient to raise one finger when you tap once and not to raise the finger when you tap twice. Show the patient how it’s done and then do the test.<br>• Cognitive estimates:<br>“What is the height of an average woman”? “How many camels are there in Holland” “What is the best paid job in Britain”?<br>• Primitive reflexes<br>Grasp: Stroke patient’s palm from radial to ulnar side. Patient will grasp your other hand.<br>Pout: Stroke the filtrum or tap a spatula placed over lips.<br>Palmomental: Stroke patient’s thenar eminence and the patient will wince.<br>• Neurological test:<br>Check for anosmia (olfactory nerve involvement) Expressive dysphasia (Broca’s area involvement)</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Function
<br>The parietal lobe carries out some very specific functions. As a part of the cortex, it has a lot of responsibilities and has to be able to process sensory information within seconds. The parietal lobe is where information such as taste, temperature and touch are integrated, or processed. Humans would not be able to feel sensations of touch, if the parietal lobe was damaged.
<br>Dysfunction
<br>Damage to the left parietal lobe can result in what is called "Gerstmann's Syndrome." It includes right-left confusion, difficulty with writing (agraphia) and difficulty with mathematics (acicula). It can also produce disorders of language (aphasia) and the inability to perceive objects normally (agnosia).
<br>Location
<br>The parietal lobe located near the centre of the brain, behind the frontal lobe, in front of the occipital lobe, and above the temporal lobe.
