9/11 Terrorists launch attacks in New York and Washington, DC.

On September 11th 2001 a terrorist group called Al Qaeda coordinated four attacks on the U.S. Two attacks occurred at The World Trade Center, one on the Pentagon and the fourth had been stopped by civlians.There were almost 3,000 fatalities.

2003 - Major Global Events

Bush ordered American troops to invade Iraq.

President George Bush had sent American troops to invade Iraq because they were allegedly developing weapons of mass destruction & also due to supposed links between Saddam Hussein's ( president of Iraq ) government and terrorist organizations. ( Al- Qaeda )

Barack Obama is elected president

Barack Obama was elected president of the United States in 2008. He created the American Recovery act which was designed to help with the effects of the Great Recession. He also had created the Affordable care act which improved the quality of healthcare & increased health insurance coverage.

2004 - Bluetooth - Major Technological Advancements

Bluetooth in phones and devices was first implemented in 2000-2004 and was a way for devices to communicate with each other without cables or wires. During that time bluetooth headphones popularity began to skyrocket.

2007 - Iphone - Major Technological Advancements

The Iphone was created in 2007 and very quickly became very popular. It was the first handheld phone with a touchscreen. It was also the first where you could both call people as well as browse the internet on the same device.

2006- Nintendo Wii - Technological Advances

This is the Nintendo Wii and it was Created in 2006. The Wii was the best family console of the time in comparison to other playstation and Xbox consoles. The Wii was also a pioneer of motion controlled games for consoles.

silly bandz are small silicone wristbands that come in thousands of different shapes and colors in the 2000s. These bands took schools by storm and student would have their wrists lined with them hoping to trade with classmates.

2003 - LOW RISE JEANS - Major FADS

low rise jeans were the number one most popular clothing item of the early 2000s. They were jeans with extra low cut waists which were worn by celebrities like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. This led the change in beauty standards to being super skinny.

2001 - Ipod - Major FADS

The iPod was a sensational new addition to the 2000s and pop culture. It was a small sleek and portable music player that listeners could plug their headphones into and listen away. Another big contributing factor to its success was its incredible amount of storage for the time.

2001 - Harry Potter - Movies

Sorcerer's Stone : Harry Potter again originated as a book series and became such a hit that there were 8 books produced and 8 movies. The series follows a young orphan Harry Potter and showcases his struggles and triumphs of being a wizard and the “chosen one”. The series is one of the biggest forces in Pop culture and made fandoms and “geeking” mainstream.

2001- Lord of the rings Movies

The Lord of the Rings was a hit novel series in the early 2000s and when the movies were announced fans were ecstatic. The movies were very expensive and different so they were a gamble but ended up a big success. The fans really enjoyed it because of its almost perfect combination of fantasy, battle, character building, and having the audience connect with the characters on a personal level.

2009- Avatar - Movies

The movie Avatar was so groundbreaking it changed the movie industry for good. The movie was mostly done with brand new 3D and CGI technology. They used that to create the hyper realistic Na’vi species and the lush world of Pandora.

2000- Eminem - Music

Marshall mathers was Eminem's third studio album and originally many people were enraged about the album due to its offensive lyrics and unapologetic tone. This sent Eminem into stardom and changed the music and hip hop industry for good.

2004- American idiot - Music

American Idiot is a punk-rock, with a little pop, album which helped break the barrier of being unapologetic and controversial in music lyrics. The album is also well known for containing many political opinions which had never before been seen in mainstream music. This broke many boundaries and set a path for more open and controversial music.

2004- The Killers Hot fuzz - Music

Hot fuzz was a revolutionary album that incorporated indie rock into mainstream music. The most popular song, Mr. Brightside was originally a single which immediately was a hit. Because they were very different from the normal mainstream music they stood out. its blend of new wave, post-punk, and indie rock influences
