I use competition on an individual and class basis.

For challenge, I use STEMscopes to get ideas for projects. This sometimes has great project ideas if your district has the access to it.

Gizmos from explore learning are also great tools. We used it as a race one time to see who could get the most questions answered on their students sheet before their 5 minute trial expired.

I highly recommend it and honestly our students who typically perform lower academically were the ones who blew me away the most.
