Before WWII gender roles were key to society, men were always dominant in the relationship. After the men were sent off to World War II around six million women were needed to take on their jobs in the community this included factory jobs, US military nurses, engineers, radio operators etc... Women felt free and empowered by their positions in the community. After WWII, men were welcomed back home but not to the same wives they left at home. Men and women were looked as semi equals by the rest of the community. Women started to advocate for equal pay and equal rights after discovering a new world of finances.

The Red scare was the hysteria threat perceived by the communists in the U.S during the cold war. A country of paranoid people results in a nation full of people worried about standing out. To be perceived as abnormal is to be perceived as the enemy. Being concerned over your safety meant conforming to what was normal. Blending in was especially necessary around soldiers. They have been scared by the horrors they've witnessed dealing with communists. To set off their alarm means you could be seriously hurt or killed. Those men are too messed up to be able to rationally deal with a particularly weird individual.

For example, The GDP grew 1.5x between 1940 and 1950, which was a lot for the time. The people during that time were not affected as positively. McCarthyism and the red scare were the main contributors to this. These jobs included U.S. military nurses, engineers, radio operators, and also flying planes for the air force from base to base, etc... After WWII, men were welcomed back but to a different and more open community. Women were more empowered and happy with the jobs they had taken over when the men left. Women started to push for equal pay and equal rights as they discovered a new world of finances.

Advertisements main focus were to empower men. In the 1940's ads were very stereotyping ,since gender roles were very defined.
