However, this led to them neglecting their respected duties, thus angering the sky god, 天帝, おりひめ's father. He resolved to separate the lovers by having each at the other side of the 天の川, but, after seeing how dejected they worked, he decided to allow them to meet once a year.  Yet, when that day arrived, the lovers realized there was no bridge to cross 天の川, causing おりひめto weep until a flock of magpies approached and told her that they would serve as their bridge. The lovers are thus reunited on the Seventh Day of the Seventh onth, or 七夕. The Japanese word for Birthday is お誕生日（おたんじょうび). However, the word should only be used in sentences that refer to others's birthdays. When writing about your own birthday, drop the letter "お" from the beginning of the word.
