I would like for my birthing to be at a local birthing center in one of the tubs. I want dim lighting, so it gives off a calming feeling for not only the baby, but me as well. The dim lights will calm. It sounds odd, since I want a calming environment, but I'd like some heavy AC/DC music playing. Some music to get the baby out as fast as possible. I want some essential oils to be able to prevent nausea as well, such as lavender and mint.

I would like to use two different methods during my birthing process. I want to do water birth and hypnobirth. The mind is very powerful, and the water is calming on the body. I also don't want needles stuck in me and such and be attached to a hospital bed for a week.

Who Do I Want In The Room?

I would like for my significant other and midwife to be in the room. I would say my mom as well, but I feel like I would be overwhelmed with having so many people surround me while I'm trying to push a baby out of my vagina. I would also want to have a pediatrician by my side, to make sure my baby is okay, and will be taken care of after birth.

For my pain management, I will be breathing in essential oils, and using the warmth of the water to assist with my contractions. I will also ask my significant other to massage my back as they go. No medicine/artificial vaccinations/ etc. I would not want it to potentially get to my baby.

Birth Positions Used

For my birthing position, I would like to be sitting on my side in the water. If there's jets, I would like for the jets to remain on my back for pressure relief. Laying on your side is supposed to be one of the easiest positions for the baby to come out. If I can't do that, then I'd simply sit upright and grab onto the handles on the bath tub.

5 Medical Interventions Explained

- Episiotomy- An episiotomy is where the doctor cuts a slit in the vaginal opening to ease the baby out faster. I would not want this, because that sounds like it would hurt extremely bad.
- Vacuum- The vacuum is where a suction cup is inserted in the vagina and placed on the baby's head. Pressure is then applied, and the baby's head is suctioned out of the vagina. I would do this method if I didn't want to have a water birth/ couldn't have a water birth.
- Forceps- forceps are a utensil that look somewhat like salad tongs. They curve into the birth canal and grasp onto the baby's head. They then pull out the baby with the tongs. I would not do this, because there are definitely risks associated with this. Plus, I wouldn't want a foreign metal object inserted into my vagina and grasping my baby's head.
- Epidural- an Epidural is given to relieve pain during labor. They insert a needle into your back and inject the pain reducing liquid. This will make you feel very little during your delivery. I would not want this, because I would much rather have a natural birth, without having the artificial medications and such.
-Pitocin- Pitocin is a medicine that they inject in you through IV that makes it to where you contract. It basically induces your labor. Again, I would not want this. I don't want liquids inserted in my body, I want my body to do all the work.

Will I delay cord clamping?

Yes. I would definitely delay my baby's cord clamping after learning about what I had learned during parenting class. Over a quarter of the baby's blood is in the cord when the baby comes out, and I would like to wait the right amount of time to make sure that the baby gets as much blood as possible. If you don't wait, your baby could be anemic

Breast or bottle feeding?

As bad as this sounds, I would like for my baby to be bottle fed. I don't want to leak milk in public or worry about feeding it while we are away from home. There's a lot of shaming and such when it comes to breastfeeding in public by all kinds of people, but if it wasn't like that, then I probably would breast feed.

I would say yes, I would like for my baby to have a vitamin K shot. A small shot compared to what could happen if they didn't have it, is completely worth it. It helps with blood clotting and prevents serious bleeding. It can also prevent a rare, but fatal disease within the baby called haemorrhagic disease of the newborn.
