One life is not necessarily more valuable than any other. However, we as humans may tend to value the lives of those closest to us, or the lives of the noble and just over others. As Christians we should value all human life as sacred, created by God in his image. However, all that being said this is still a difficult question that, for most of us, is not as black and white as it perhaps seems it should be. Dorothy Day points out the two differences of suffering, with the first type being suffering under mind and soul which is not looked to with delight, and the second type of suffering being that of which is correlated with suffering through love which is looked to with delight.
