         <description><![CDATA[<div>strawberries;<br>strawberries are GM to look larger on the self and thus meaning they are easier to sell as well as being easier to produce.<br>They are also spraying these strawberries with pesticides around 6 times throughout their growing process. They are sprayed all over meaning there is a high chance that you consume the pesticides if they are not washed of thoroughly.<br>Also in some countries, near the end of the strawberries growing process it will start to get frosty and icy,. Frost and ice can very quickly ruin the strawberries so in those centenarian counties the strawberries are sprayed with a sort of de-icer called 'ice minus' to stop them from freezing so quickly and ruining the crop.<br><br>So from what i gathered, the main reason farmers genetically modify their strawberries crop is&nbsp;so they can survive longer in the cold frosty weather and also in some cases to enlarge them.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>They’ve promised higher yields and improved nutritional value, but have failed to produce even one commercially viable example. Pest-resistance, blight-resistance, and tolerance of drought, flood, and salinity—all of these traits can be produced far more quickly and cost-effectively through non-GM breeding practices; <strong>GM products don’t even come close. </strong>Genetic modification, also known as “genetic engineering,” is a technologically advanced way to select desirable traits in crops. While selective breeding has existed for thousands of years, modern biotechnology is more efficient and effective because seed developers are able to directly modify the genome of the crop. Genetic modification can protect crops against threats to strong yields, such as diseases, drought, pests, and herbicides used to control weeds, and therefore improve the efficiency of food production. While farmers have been selectively breeding plants for centuries, genetic engineering allows new traits to be developed much more quickly. Utilizing traditional selective breeding can take multiple growing seasons to develop and test a new variety. Genetic engineering is more precise than conventional hybridization and therefore is less likely to produce unexpected results. The Fgenesh gene-finder was selected as the most accurate program for plant gene identification. Plant Molecular Biology (2005), 57, 3, 445-460: "Five ab initio programs (FGENESH, GeneMark.hmm, GENSCAN, GlimmerR and Grail) were evaluated for their accuracy in predicting maize genes.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Bt Cotton<br>Bt cotton is a genetically modified organism cotton variety. Bt toxins are insecticidal to the larvae of moths and butterflies, beetles, cotton bollworms and ghtu flies but are harmless to other forms of life. The gene coding for Bt toxin has been inserted into cotton as a transgene, causing it to produce this natural insecticide in its tissues. In many regions, the main pests in commercial cotton are lepidopteran larvae, which are killed by the Bt protein in the genetically modified cotton they eat.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

The very first commercial sale of genetically modified foods was only twenty years ago in the year 1994. There is no possible way that our health authorities can test all possible combinations on a large enough population, over a long enough period of time to be able to say with certainty that they are harmless. </div>]]></description>
