-the government will provide a attorney if you can’t afford one

-right to a public trial without unnecessary delay

-Right to an impartial jury

-right to know what charges are against you and who the accuser is

-The presumption of innocence until and unless you have been proven guilty.

Miriam and I have learned that religous head coverings are a garment that represents a religion, a faith, or culture. People wear these as a way to express themselves and show their identity. The First Amendment says that in schools you cannot make students take off their head coverings and so schools that ban head coverings are going against the law. Schools can only ban head coverings if there is a safety issue.

We think that it is very interesting that Afghanistan released a decree that all Afghan women must follow the country’s dress code which is wearing a burqa.

Profit margin can be up to 70% on tampons and pads and lastly another good example is pink disposable razors for girls cost double the men’s razors that are identical except for the color. Ariel and I had the issue of border control. We believe that people should only be deported (kicked out of the US) for a reason. For example, there are some people who are here who escaped danger from their home country. They should be allowed to stay. However, some are in the Unites States who came through the border illegally. These people are selling drugs, taking up space, and weakening natural resources. Donald Trump said with help of private sector, he will preform a big sweep of illegal immigrants and deport them if they don’t have a good reason.

While we don’t have a limit of free speech many argue that we should. Due to the lack of peaceful nature in the past few months due to the war with Israel and Hamas people have not felt safe because people and students on college campuses are harassing Jews and saying harmful comments. Although everyone should have free speech and the ability to express themselves we should all have to have a limit of a specific amount of free speech because many people are using there ability to speak freely as a way to say insults and harmful things to other people. These harmful comments have a negative impact on our society as a whole and affect the victims critically. In the first amendment it insurers that everyone has a right to freedom of speech and peaceful protest. The exception to the right of freedom of speech are threats, harassment, defaming someone. I think that the laws in place is good and I think that the right should have exceptions due to harmful actions.

Me and Hannah discussed about how women’s rights are unequal to men’s rights. For example, according to the Bankrate Article, women’s clothes costs about 50% more than men’s clothes. Although that Women’s clothes, has higher quality material, intricate designs, etc., men’s clothes also has clothes with those same gimmicks. Another reason why women hold be equal to men is healthcare. For example, according to WeForum.org, the average working pays 18% more on health costs than men. Lastly, abortion. According to Kff.Org, half of the U.S. allows abortion to be legal, but the other half banned it. Some of their reasoning is because it can risk the health of the mother.

The gun laws in America are very loose and not many. With such little gun laws there are many gun death. Of course, each state has different gun laws, with California having the most, and Mississippi and Arkansas having the least. The website everytownresearch.org is a great website that shows the statistics of different states concerning guns. Every town is a huge organization working towards ending gun violence and making gun laws stricter. According to their website, only twenty two states have required background checks to get a gun, meaning that in twenty eight states anyone, despite their crime history or mental illnesses, can own a gun. If anyone can own a gun, then there will be more people who want to kill who have guns, making there be much more gun violence. The government should make gun laws much stricter, because with less guns comes less violence, and with less violence comes less issues.

Asylum is the protection given to people who have arrived from another country and can prove that returning to their home countries would endanger them. Seeking asylum is a universal human right and is protected in the United States by both federal and international law. However, the process is long and complicated and many people are forced to return to their home countries.

In recent years, policies have been implemented in the United States in an attempt to end asylum on the border. An example is Title 42, which uses Covid as a reason to deport people seeking abortion. United states citizens have the right to protest against all branches of government in front of any public domain. However, there are certain laws that restrict any physical confrontations that may be included in the event of a protest. For instance, most states forbid any form of weaponry from entering the vicinity of a protest as a result of the Capitol Insurrection that occurred on January 6th, 2021. This event abused the right of free speech and protest against the government by demonstrating violence and harm towards others. Police have the ability to shut down a protest if it involves any form of danger or threats to people. Unfortunately, in some cases police may use their guns in inappropriate circumstances, escalating the violence of the protest and possibly harming others. Every single citizen must abide by these demands, including immigrants and political officials. To conclude, peaceful protest are highly encouraged by the Government and are crucial for our Democracy whereas violent protests are discouraged and illegal.

According to the 15th amendment you can’t be denied the right to vote based on skin color or if you’ve been enslaved. Passed on February 26 1869, it was a huge step for African American rights, because regardless of your past your vote counts as much as a white mans. If you get denied the right to vote, you can sue for voter disenfranchisement, with the government treating this as a very serious matter. Before the bill was passed only white men over 21 were allowed to vote, but now you can vote no matter your skin, race, gender, disability or sexuality.
