In the novel ''The Hunger Games'', one of the major conflicts mentioned is Prim getting chosen as a tribute to be a part of the Hunger Games. In chapter 1, page 20 the novel states " Effie Trinket crosses back to the podium, smoothes the slip of paper, and reads out the name in a clear voice. And it's not me. It's Primrose Everdeen." This shows how the main character Katniss had to choose between volunteering as tribute or staying quiet.

When friends save your life

One of the topics the author mentions in the novel is friendship. The message the author was trying to express is, sometimes all you need by your side is a friend. I know this because in the novel in chapter 13, page 184 it states "For a while we hold each other's gaze. Then, without even rustling a leaf, her little hand slides into the open and points to something above my head." I know this because Rue ends up saving Katniss and in return they started working together. Even though Rue ends up dying, Katniss tried her best to save her. If it wasn't for Rue, who knows how the story would have ended.

Katniss Everdeen

Katniss Everdeen, is a character who is skilled and has black hair. At the start of the novel Katniss is smart but keeps to herself. I know this because in the text it mentions, "Even so, I always take a moment to listen carefully for the hum that means the fence is live." This shows that Katniss is smart and has learned to listen for the hum of the fence. During the events that unfold, Katniss volunteers as a tribute. This can be seen in chapter, 2 when it states, "With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me. 'I volunteer!' I gasp. 'I volunteer as tribute.'" This shows that she really cares about Prim, but she doesn't really feel that way about anyone else. At the end of the novel, Katniss becomes kinder and starts caring more about Peeta. This information is shown when the novel expresses "Haymitch couldn't be sending me a clearer message. One kiss equals one pot of broth." To sum up, Katniss starts listening to Haymitch to keep Peeta alive. She has to put on a show, so she does. This shows how Katniss changed over the book; from not caring about anyone besides her family and Gale, to doing whatever it takes to keep Peeta alive.

I added I Found, to my playlist because the lyrics remind me of Katniss from the novel. The lyrics state, "And I found love where it wasn't supposed to be right in front of me, talk some sense to me and I'll use you as a makeshift gauge of how much to give and how much to take." These lyrics make me think in the novel; in chapter 25, it expressed, "He leans down and rips the bandage off his leg, eliminating the final barrier between his blood and the earth. No, you can't kill yourself, I say. Because if he dies, I'll never go home, not really. I'll spend the rest of my life in this arena trying to think my way out." This is why I think those lyrics make Katniss she didn't want to kill Peeta, she didn't want to stand by and watch him bleed out to death.

Overall I disliked the ending of this novel because Peeta ended up finding out that the whole love thing wasn't real and Katniss didn't mean any of it. My favorite part was when Katniss and Peeta started working together because it started showing how much Katniss cared about Peeta. On the other hand, my unfavorite part was when Katniss didn't care if she played Peeta because it shows how cold-hearted Katniss is. My favorite character was Rue because she was just so kind-hearted and quiet, and she truly found a place in my heart. If I could change one thing, it would be Katniss pretending she loves Peeta because playing someone like that can mess a person up. One technique the author used that I really liked was when Katniss would look down on herself because it showed Katniss as a whole. One example of this is when she sees herself shooting another tribute also known as Rues killer. I would recommend this book because it just gets your juices flowing and it can keep you entertained for a while.

I added Eyes Open, to my playlist because the lyrics reminded me of the actual Hunger Games from the novel. The lyrics state, "Everybody's waiting, everybody's watching, even when you're sleeping, keep your eyes open". These lyrics make me think of the novel; in chapter 12, it expressed, "A few hours later, the stampede of feet shakes me from slumber. I look around in bewilderment. It's not yet dawn, but my stinging eyes can see it. It would be hard to miss the wall of fire descending on me." This is why it says everybody's watching and to keep your eyes open even when you're sleeping. Katniss fell asleep and woke up to fire surrounding her.

I added Girl On Fire to my playlist because the lyrics remind me of Katniss when she and Peeta wore fire as their first look from the novel. The lyrics state, "This girl is on fire she's walking on fire everybody stares,as she goes by cause they can see the flame that's in her eyes watch her when she's lighting up the night nobody knows she's a lonely girl and it's a lonely world." These lyrics make me think of the novel; in chapter 5, it expressed, "Here we go then, he says, and before we can react he sets our capes on fire." This is why I believe Girl on Fire was a good song to put with this moment because Katniss was truly on fire and is known as the girl who was on fire throughout the novel.

I added Deep In The Meadow, to my playlist because the lyrics remind me of Rues death from the novel. The lyrics state, " A bed of grass a soft green pillow lay down your head and close you eyes." These lyrics make me think of the novel; in chapter 1, it expressed, "I gather up an armful and come back to Rue's side. Slowly, one stem at a time, I decorate her body in the flowers. Covering the ugly wound." I think those lyrics match with Rue's death because she took her last breath and laid on the grass while Katniss covered her with flowers and sang her to "sleep".

In the novel, "The Hunger Games" one conflict mentioned is Katniss dad dying. The novel stated, "My father knew and he taught me some before he was blown to bites in a mine explosion." This clearly showed how Katniss had to step up as a mother figure for Prim, since her mother ended up going through depression after that. As you can see Prim has impacted the way Katniss changed throughout the novel.

One of the other topics the author mentions in the novel is government control. The message the author was trying to express is, having to be apart of something you have no say in because the government said so. I know this because in the novel on page 19 it mentions, "Whatever words they use, the real message is clear. Look how we take your children and sacrifice them and there's nothing you can do. This shows how the author was trying to teach us about no having the power to even lift a finger to protect your children.
