Dialogue Tags

Here is an example of my fire-up on 3-20-17. On this fire-up we were to do some reasearch on dialogue tags and then say a few things we learned from it. Here is my response.

''After doing some research on what a dialogue tag is, I found out that a dialogue tag is ‘’Also often referred to as an attribution, a dialogue tag is a small phrase either before, after, or in between the actual dialogue itself.’’ To use dialogue tags you must use it before, after or even the middle of dialogue. ‘’How often should you use dialogue tags’’? It is your choice when or when not to use dialogue tags. Just make sure that your dialogue is easy for your readers to follow.

Here is an example of dialogue tags, “Did you get my letter?” asked Katie. In this sentence the ‘’asked Katie’’ is the dialogue tag. How I can apply this to my own writing is by just watching for when I use dialogue and making sure I add that dialogue tag. Like let’s say in my writing I write ‘’What is for dinner mom’’? I would then add the dialogue tag at the end of that sentence with ‘’Logan asked’’. Like this ‘’What is for dinner mom?’’ Logan asked. Here is the link I used'' http://thewritepractice.com/dialogue-tags/

Now as we are still asking the same question; Do I always use dialogue tags? Where would I use them and where Would I not use them? Where is an few example of when now as a writer I prefer to use them and when not to use them. I think that dialogue tags help your writing but it is not good to use them if you keep using them back and forth. Here is an example. ''Hey Sam can you come downstairs for dinner?'' Repiled Mom. ''Be down in a minute''! Said Sam. '' Ok, sweetie. But hurry''! Said Mom. So see to me it does not sound right when you keep dialogue tags over and over again. Another way, where dialogue tags aren't very useful is when, when you do use dialogue tags to not use said every time. Like ''She Said''. Or ''He Said''. Try to use words like ''She Shouted or ''He whispered''.

Run-On Sentences

Here is an example of my fire-up on 10/21/17. For this entry we were to do some research on run-on sentences. And then we were to write a response to a few things we learned from it. Here is my entry from that day.

''When I did some research on what a run-on sentence is. I found that a run-on sentence is when 2 or more sentences are joined without using the correct punctuation. For example like ‘’It is nearly half past five we cannot reach town before dark’’. I found out that the easiest way to fix a run-on sentence is to split the sentence into 2 different sentences using periods where they are needed. There are two different types of run-on sentences; fused sentences and comma splices. A fused sentence occurs when independent clauses run together with no marks of punctuation or coordinating conjunctions to separate them. And A comma splice is to join two independent causes.''

Now looking back my this response it made me think to myself. That sometimes even after doing tons of research, and having our teachers do some work on this subject with my class. I still do to this day will have a run-on sentence in my writing. When I read somelse's writing and catch a run-on it will drive me crazy. So I think that sometimes I get to caught up in my work and will forget to add those commas. Which reminds me that I even mastered the whole commas section on NoRedInk. Anyways I am still trying my hardest to the best with my writing and that includes adding commas and even dialogue tags.

Today I am here to talk about the grammar rules that I have learned on NoRedInk. As I have mastered 6 topics. They are all from the same section which is commas for clarity. The first tool that I learned was Introductory Clauses and Phrases. This helps with setting the stage for the main action of the sentence. I also learned about direct address. This is the name of a person normally who is being spoken to. I finally, also learned about Commas Separating Adjectives. This is normally a comma or a word that seperates the adjective and the subject.

One way it has influenced my writing was by word choice. Now this book has a higher lexile level so it was harder to read due to the fact that she used bigger and longer words.

I really like school, but I don't think I can say that I love it! Cause I don't. However, I do love coming to school to see my friends. They have made a HUGE impact on my life. I wouldn't be the person I am today without them. In the beginning of the year I was super scared and shy to talk to anybody! And now they have showed me what life is about! To meet new people and make relationships with them. Weather that might be Best friends or Boy Friend and Girl Friend Or even just someone you say hello to in the hallways even now and then. I love Team time interactions. Like when we get to play jolly ball or just doing a walk and talk around the track. I just love getting to have a conversation with them. But what I would say is the best thing I have done with them this year is the field trip we went on back in Sepetember. When we went to Rocky Mountain national Park. It was great because it gave us the time to bound together without having any disractions like phones or I pads. So it gave us the chance to get to know one other.

I think that over the past few months I have really improved on my writing. I also think that I have big time improved on my word choice. Here is an example of my writing from my last writing snapshot.

'' Pat Pat! Brush Brush. ´´I love your painting´´. Mom said. ‘'Thanks it is a working progress” I said. BEEP! BEEP! Bye mom love you. ‘’Bye sweetie have a good day’’. I walked outside BRRR it’s was cold. I could see my breath. I quickly then ran to the bus. Emily! I heard from the back corner of the bus ‘’come sit over here’’ she said in a loud voice. Hey Maddy I said. So did you see the new guy Maddy said in a whisper voice. What new guy I said. The guy in the front of the bus she said. I stood up to take glimpse at him. There he was the most handsome guy I have never seen Short brown hair, blue eyes and was super tall. He is really cute I said. I have never seen anything like him Maddy said .What’s his name? Derek I believe she said. RRRRR. Bye maddy I will see you after school I said BYE! She said. Ding Dong! Good morning class. Mr.Christopher said in a loud voice. I would like to introduce you to our new student. Sally? Said Mr.C. This is sally he said in a loud voice.''

Now here is an example of my writing now.

''A stir of peace and love was noticeable in the air, making the gentle breezes to add to the magic of the great ceremony taking place. A fiance, and very soon to be husband, stood near a priest. After a small while of waiting, a graceful, long, and white dress was visible, it was worn by a young woman holding a bouquet of Orchids with a slightly elderly man. The bride and elder walked forward, the dress dragging itself gently across the floor with each slow and anxious step. The husband’s face was marked with a distinguished look, an obvious mixture of types of emotions. The elder stopped walking as the bride took her few final steps to the place where her life would be changed and where memories would be cherished. As the priest gently and quietly cleared his throat, the bride and groom looked intently into eachothers’ eyes. The priest talked intendedly, but each word seemed to be blocked out by both the groom and bride. Finally, the priest said the last pair of words.

I think for my overall grade I deserve a 4 on this project. I am first going to start with the padlet. I think that I worked super hard on this. I am super happy on how it turned out, and I covered all of the topics I were to include. Such as examples for my writing/ fire-ups. As well as books that have influenced my writing. And finally, work on NoRedInk or Vocab.com. I think that I have showed all aspects of this in a really well organized and clean way. With each showing examples with reasons and evidence. As for my writing snapshot. I also think that I have done a well job on this too. I think that I have come a long way with my writing since my last writing snapshot. I think that for this piece I have included a lot more complex words and more meaningful words. I as well think that I have added more and more punctuation like using commas when needed after spending a lot of time working on NoRedInk And Finally for my Fire-Works #6.I am going to start out by saying that fireworks 6 turned out very well thought out and well organized. As for my everyday work effort I think that since the school year is just about over I am getting a little bit more chatty with Kimy, But in the end I get all my fire-ups done. And make sure that I give it my all . One thing I know I should have done is self elevate my work that day. By this I mean my work on like either NoRedInk or Vocab. I always post to the padlet when I am done with my fire-up and now I am always making sure I comment on other people’s responses to give them feedback. Finally, emails. I always make sure to write my emails every week. I might not always send my emails on Tuesday but I make sure to send them before the end of the week. I do think that I pour my heart and soul into my emails every week. And try to write them to the best of ability. I really did enjoy writing emails every week to let my parents know what I am learning in each of my classes every week. I am so happy that we will continuing this next year and the year after that. I am going to keep achieving my goals as writer and a reader. I am going to keep going work on NoRedInk and vocabulary.com. So I can keep improving with my Writing skills. As well my thinking skills. After looking back at this project I think that I have learned a lot of it. After seeing how much I have grown this year. With all the different aspects of my language arts skills.
