Initial thoughts and feelings about the course and this task

I feel a bit nervous and excited since this is new. I have done similar kind of assignment before, back in college. But this is more advanced and I am hoping to do this assignment with the knowledge that i have and am going to learn in this course. I would also get the chance experiment new skills that i have learnt whilst doing this assignment.

Target audience

my targeted audience are between the ages of 12-18 years old males and females who might or might not have interest in weapons such as guns, knife and etc. The target audience might be influenced by youtube videos or movies that has these type of scenes without understanding that those scenes are a stunt or scripted.

I plan to grab their attention by a kid who is influenced and addicted to movies to just place weapons in his bag, and then surprising them with the rasping reality of this issue. Optimistically, this concept will make them grow up and have a proper and matured mindset of avoiding this and understanding how things and life really works.

This issue involves and affects a lot of people such as the students till the age of 17, teachers, parents/families and the authorities. This topic also involves the glorification of guns in movies, media and tv shows and the effects of using it. Gun violence or school shooting affects the user, the victim, their families, friends and their surrounding.

My target audience are youths or young adults who are influenced my the media or movies and tv shows about the use of guns, not knowing that it is all a skit. My focus is to show the effects of using gun illegally in school and the consequences that they will face in the future.

People who has or uses a gun will make them feel powerful or like they are in charge. Especially in a young age, because the people who has a gun at a young age will not be matured enough to understand why they have it. They just have it thinking that it is "cool" or "no one would mess with me". Although there would be a problem in the future from different perspectives.

Identify and craft the message

Attention- i intend to attract my audience attention by coming up with a good and striking scene, where only actions will speak about the video. I will be having scenes that would have the characters buying a gun illegally and sneaking or bringing it to school. I want to have a dark type of tone in the video.

Interest- i am going to create a familiar situation or place for the student to relate to such as packing books for school or being at school. By doing this, i can grab my audience's attention before showing the harsh reality.

Desire- the feeling of being joyful should be seen at the start as the kid is watching action movies just like any other normal day. This only allows the audience to know what is on the outside of the kid and not knowing what he is really thinking. Once the scene has been shot, it will change to a different emotion as they see the kid smiling/laughing as he packs his bags for school the next day and also packing a gun in it, with bad intentions.

Action- After watching the video, my audience members should understand the harsh reality of the use of gun at a young age and also the difference between a movie and reality. Promoting this topic with a bold font text at the end of the video should be understood by the audience.

Treatment of my Video

The short promo video that i will be conveying a message about the difference between gun used in movies which are fake and the harsh reality of getting influenced by a movie and purchasing a real gun for fun or to show it off.

The short promo video will start off by the scene in the kids' room watching action movies and playing violent games that includes shooting and etc and watching action scenes in movies while getting excited. The scene cuts to the kid packing his books for school in the morning and he sneakily put his gun in his bag. While filming this, the lighting would be focused on him and the surrounding would be dark and gloomy to set the tone that what he is going to do is not going to end well. I will edit a music that sets the dark mood and the situation. At the end, it would be a voiceover talking about the message behind this and explaining how dangerous it can be to other people too

Target audience might be influenced by guns and violence or people who are against the use of guns and violence.

i want my audience to feel shocked and scared by the illegal use of gun at a young age and the harsh reality of using it.

i would show my video in a dark, mysterious or eerie type of way so that i could grab their attention. I perhaps would also show the catastrophic emotions to my audience and the consequences of gun violence in school. This will convey the harsh reality of illegal use of gun and that it is nowhere near the movies we watch.

The colours which are best used in this are black and red. Black is used in this because it can represent the darkness in someone who has bad intentions or is going through something tough in their life. Whereas red represents warning, danger, anger or blood. I prefer adding these colours because it will strike my target audience's minds.

White hat- I would concentrate on the factual, objective information concerning school shootings, such as statistics, facts, and information about previous instances. this info will be used in the video and i will make sure the message will be informative well said.

Red hat- i will consider the emotional part of the awareness video. I would consider on how best to portray the gravity of the situation and the significance of preventing similar tragedies, while also taking into account the possibility that the film would cause viewers to feel scared or anxious.

Black hat- i would consider the negative consequences in this video. I would point out any potential drawbacks, repercussions, or unexpected effects of the film, such whether it was considered to be extremely explicit or exploitative.

Yellow hat- I will consider the possible outcomes of the videos by raising awareness about the video. I would also think of how viewers may be engaged and educated by the film, for example, by giving assets and appliances to help stop school shootings.

Green hat- i would make the video more engaging to the audience. I would discuss concepts for graphics, music, and other components that may enhance the video's effectiveness and memorability.

Blue hat- i would have a self-aware approach in my video production. I would take into account the video's aims and objectives, establish completion deadlines and benchmarks, and assess the video's efficacy following its distribution.

The second chapter looks at how schools are portrayed in YA Literature and how that affects the likelihood of school killings. The third chapter examines the causes of school killings, such as social seclusion and mental health problems. The effects of school killings on people and society, including trauma, dread, and the normalisation of violence, are covered in chapter four. The possibility for YA Literature to confront the problem of school gun violence and encourage change is examined in chapter five.
