In Mexico she went through really hard times with having to separate with Abuelita and mama getting really sick. Esperanza had to work to raise money to help mama with the hospital money and getting Abuelita to California. Esperanza made friend in California and learned about what other people are going through and becoming nicer and more considerate. A down side to being in America is that she was being judged by people who had bad experiences with other rich people. Also in America she learned many things and was able to take care of herself and even help others.
