It's refreshing to see how we can really leverage a read aloud to ensure the time spent reading it is meaningful for students.

Extend- Both parents and teachers had requested word lists in the past and this is something I had been working on for the past year, but was struggling to find the best way.

One of the most inspiring term that I've learned today is the word 'shift' which means students get to think and discuss one topic in their own domain language so that they can fully take advantage of their repertoire and then 'shift ' into the language that they are currently learning with teachers scaffolding, like sentence frame and staters. I've seen same things happening in our classroom where students look at English and don't know what to say, once they've heard it in Chinese ,they immediately get it.

That's what we did and tried to do. I asked around all the paras in this room today, some of them had the same experiences. Hearing you today helped me realise that my Language can be a powerful tool for me to improve not a enemy. Extend: I want to empower all my students to use this and not embarrassed by it. Challenge: As I mentioned, I wonder if this slow down the fluency of English learning?

Translanguaging is important and we should provide many opportunities for students to do so in class. Offer students choice in which language they want to reflect, think, discuss, and explain. When assessing, it's important to provide scaffolding materials for students (sentence frames). Extend- students' language uniqueness should be celebrated and we should seek ways to be more inclusive in class and help students to feel represented. Metalinguistic Awareness, I can't miss any opportunities for students to access their background knowledge to compare and make connnections with new content. ......Challenge: I will work on trying different collaborative teaching models to diversify the way we teach. In order to do so, I need to read more/investigate to fully understand what all the models look like in practice and which ones would be best for students in G1.
