Though such actions haven’t been taken, this was a potential consequence that Russia could have faced.
2. Just like rivalries amongst nations competing in the Olympics during the Cold War, rivalries amongst Olympic competitors exists to this day. During the Winter Olympics in 2022, many athletes were competing head-to-head for the gold medal. 
3. Just as the Cold War Olympics were a way for nations to show how dominant they are, the competition in the current Olympics holds high stakes.
