I remind them that their class participation grade is negatively effected by their improper use. Too many students come to class needing to charge devices. Without the device, it is pretty much impossible to participate in class effectively. In terms of my class policies, I discussed them with both parents and students at the beginning of the year. I use the policy in the handbook, but find that I am always policing in the classroom. In my own children's high school they have had this since middle school. Yes at the beginning there is some helicoptering.. but after that what it does is open conversation between parent and child. I like knowing where my kid is at in school, I don't want to know when it is too late. I feel in the end the iparent really works out well between parent and child. This also opens opportunity for parent to email teacher earlier than a parent teacher conference.
