Today's activity will involve water play in the garden! Because what is more fun than splashing around with a bucket filled with water and some toys to float or sink?! If you have not done so already, please make sure that you have brought a change of clothes for your child today.

Circle time will be about family... Please bring a family picture for your child to have and show during circle time. The children will tell us about their loved one in the picture. For children who are going through separation, it is reassuring to know that their teachers care about who their family is and that they are not trying to replace them. We will then think about how we can make some art with each picture to decorate the classroom and of course for your child to take a look at whenever he/she needs some comfort.

Environnement: LPE (garden)

Set-up:
- family photos
- hose
- water toys, bucket, etc.

Circle Time: We will talk about everyone's family photos, who is in them and why they are important to them.

Process: We will be in the garden doing some fun water play to pass the time: filling buckets, playing with toys, and running through the hose!

Congratulations on making it through the second day!

We want to ensure that the children feel that La Petite Ecole is a second home for them. So today will be the first of a series of days that will focus on having your children personalize various items that they will use all throughout the year. Today, the children will create a logo or small drawing that will then be laminated and affixed to their cubby, so that they can easily recognize it.

Finally, the children will decorate the front and back page of their "Cahier de Vie." The "Cahier de Vie" is a book that we fill with your children's drawings and paintings, and with pictures of life and learning at LPE. Parents are given the cahier to bring home during each break in order to see what their child has been up to at school.

Environnement: LPE

Set-up:
- cahiers
- pictures of each student
- stickers/markers/etc. for decorating
- construction paper
- laminating papers

We all want to respect each other and the space around us. So we will work together to come up with a list of rules that we will all agree to follow in the classroom. The kids will feel greater responsibility to follow rules they came up with themselves, so let's think about how we want to be treated and make a list of rules we all agree on!

we will have a discussion about the different rules and their meanings. Then we will do a photo shoot where children will act up each rules as we will photograph them with a polaroid and will dedicate a space on one of the school wall to hang them as a reminder. A fun process to get them to learn how to live inside a community.

During circle time today, we will start developing the school's rules. We will repeat them frequently so that the children know what they can and cannot do at school.

Here are the rules the kids made last year. We are happy to add to or change these depending on what our new students think is important:

We wash our hands when we arrive at school and at every transition

We always walk inside the school

We wait our turn

We listen to our friends and to teachers when they speak

We keep our hands to ourselves (i.e., no pushing, pulling, biting, hitting...)

We ask the teachers to go to the bathroom

We ask for water if we are thirsty

We never leave the classroom without a teacher

We must have lots of fun!

Once the children are over the separation process, the teachers begin to encourage them to put away their Doudou when they arrive at school in the morning. Although the doudou can be there for a quick comforting hug, it is best if the children learn to be independent from it and keep their hands free to participate in activities. For that purpose, the children build their classroom's "Doudou house", where the doudous can rest and socialize (at a safe distance... each doudou will have its own room!) during the day. Is it going to be a high rise or a country house?! Imagination is the limit!

As we continue to work on personalizing the children's school items, this day will be dedicated to decorating school bags. Each child has a tote bag with his/her name on it that is hung on their hanger, so that all of their belongings can be found in one place (e.g., coat, sweater, backpack, scarves, gloves, etc.). This helps ensure that items don't get lost and minimizes the mixing and touching of personal belongings to promote a healthy environment.

At LPE, we like to get our hands dirty. Today, the children will choose a color from a set of soothing colors (e.g., blue, yellow, purple, green, peach, etc.), mix it up with some white paint, dip their hands in, and decorate their bags with their own hands. Messy is fun!

Environnement: LPE

Set-up:
- Tote bags
- fabric paints

Process: each child will receive their own tote bag and be given full creative freedom to paint on it how they like!

We know your children have been eying that beautiful paint palette since the first day of school... So today is the day that they get to paint! Painting at the palette is an essential tool of La Petite Ecole. We view painting as a game that is accessible to everyone, without restrictions, judgment, or requirements. Children paint to express themselves, to soothe themselves, to have some fun... The only rules, which they will be reminded of over the course of the next few weeks, are not mixing paintbrushes, and waiting for one's turn to access a color. For today, we will just turn up the music and let them paint all that's in their heart!

Circle time will be dedicated again to singing songs and getting to know each other. What is your favorite color? What is your favorite things to do? How was you summer? Where did you do?

Environnement: LPE

Set-up:
- paints
- paper

Process: The kids will be encouraged to express their creativity through painting! No rules except respecting the space, materials, and our friends.

It's the weekend and next week will be even more fun-filled!
