1-I prefer to use the coursebook, authentic materials and the tasks from other sources together. Since we have a curriculum to follow, coursebook materials are more effective and and convenient in this term. But the use of different sources is important for learning process. So, I sometimes choose materials from the sources other than the coursebooks. By doing this, I can add more challenge or more support to the tasks according to the level of the students.
2- I think, some of the new ideas about developing more active listening skills in today’s sessions would be appropriate in my classes. Some of them are suitable for my students’ levels but some of them are not. For example, ICQs are beneficial to check whether the students understood the tasks or not.

1-The students are afraid of speaking English in front of the class. They think that if they make mistakes, their friends will make fun of them. So, most of them are shy and unwilling to speak English.
2-Yes, I think especially the maximization and differentiation activities like “find someone who” and “role playing” will support less confident students and give them the required motivation to speak English.

1-We adapted car-mania text from 11th grade coursebook, Silverline. At pre-reading stage, we did exercise 1, by showing the pictures of the hobbies and asking -which hobby do you want to learn/do? Then, we showed a picture of car-tatooing and asked the question: what do you know about car-tatooing and what do they want to know about it. We wrote the answers on the board by dividing it into two.
For gist reading, we ask the question: what do you think about the word, car-maniac? What does that mean? We gave 3 minutes to students to find it from the text.
We used ecercises 4,5 and 6: T/F, open ended questions and vocabulary exercises for detailed understanding.
For post-reading, we did foundnthe motto exercise in the coursebook. Then, we gave an assessment: Find your own motto and prepare it on Chatterpix.
2-In today’s sessions, I think differentiation of the reading exercises will be the most useful technique for my colleagues. Adding extra activities or changing the reading tasks according to the levels of the students will make students more confident and will improve their understanding.

1-I think the idea of writing a short letter to one of a class mate is the most useful idea to use in my local context. Most of the students are reluctant to do writing activities. This activity can motivate them to write and it is a fun and energetic way of conducting a writing task.
2- In my opinion, my collegues would be interested in using digitalization tools for writing skills. Because they are easier way of sharing and checking the writing tasks, digital tools such as padlet would make writing easier. They are also interesting for students and time saving for teachers.

I think my colleagues would discuss the issues such as: teaching grammar is boring, the intense curriculum, the differences between Turkish and English language structures and students even don’t understand Turkish grammar. So, grammar sessions are very challenging for them.
The differences between Turkish and English grammar structures should be prioritised because it makes teaching grammar harder and so, boring for students. I would guide them to discuss about the solutions and share their ideas.

2-Yes, I think self-assessment could solve some local problems in my area. Students can see their own needs and progress by self assessment. Students are generally afraid of being criticised by their classmates. So, they are reluctant to use English in class. There is no peer pressure when students evaluate themselves. They can feel themselves comfortable in this type of assessment. 3- Sharing the problems in teaching English and finding solutions is the greatest benefit of being in a PDC. Teachers can evaulate themselves and improve their teaching techniques by being a part of this community. They can share their different tools and ideas on language teaching.
