Malala is a 17 year old Pakastani girl, who was the youngest person to ever win a nobel peace prize. She survived the assassination attempt from the Taliban. She spoke out on the importance of education, and the Taliban thought that women shouldn't be educated. Her bus was pulled over on her way home from school in 2012 and she was shot. Even after this tragic event, she continued to speak out for womens education and education in general. She even wrote a book called "I am Malala". In the book she says "how dare the Taliban take away my education." Malala never conformed after the event. It made her an even stronger person. She had the decision after the accident to cower in fear, or to stand out against the people who hurt her for her beliefs. She chose the less popular option and kept chasing her dream of education. If she was alive when Emerson and Thorea where alive, they would value her nonconformity way of life.

The movie Wall-E came out in 2008. In the movie, Wall- E is the last robot left on planet earth. He spends his time cleaning up the earth. All of the humans left earth because it was too full of waste and garbage. They send another robot down to see if there is any signs of life so the humans could return. As the movie goes on they EVE finds a plant and the humans get to return to planet earth. The humans took the earth for granted and they took nature for granted, so it was destroyed. In my quote, Emerson explains that the stars are taken for granted, and if they were taken away then people would appreciate them more. Like in the movie Wall-E the earth is taken away and the people realize they have taken it for granted.

The surfer Bethany Hamilton is a prime example over intuition over reason. Hamilton grew up surfing since a little age. After a tragic shark attack in 2003, the surfer was left without her arm. She was told that she would never be able to competitively surf again. Hamilton competed after her dad made her a special board. She won, in multiple competitions. She knew that even though it seemed impossible, if she worked and trained she could obtain her dream. The way she persevered is like Thoreau and Emerson's theories, she kept going even if it wasn't the most reasonable thing to do, and from that she succeeded.

Dreamwork's Shrek was released in 2001 and since then, has made 3 sequels to the ever-so-good series. In the movie, we dive into the magical world of fairytale creatures, where they are being forced by Lord Farquad to be sent away and live by his rules. Farquad evicts the creatures to Shrek's swamp and he must go on a quest to rescue Princess Fiona and return her to be Farquad's wife.
Shrek can play a big role in showing others how simple he can live. In the beginning of the movie, we see Shrek going about his simple and daily routine when a group of villagers is setting out to get rid of Shrek. Shrek, who has plenty of experience of these groups of people, goes out "empty-handed and without anxiety" to simply talk to the villagers and get them "OUT OF MY SWAMP!" Shrek can do this every day because he isn't afraid of others who want him to change or leave from living his easy and enjoyable life.

In Home Alone 3 The little boy has to figure out how to keep the bad guy away and out of the house when his parent have left him at home when they were leaving for their family vacation. He has to find his own way to fight them off because he is just a little boy who can't call the cops because his parent will get in trouble.

Being self - reliant in his case is he had to solve the problem of being able to find ways to keep the bad guy out of his house. His way of keeping the bad guys out was him making plans for things to happen, like if they opened the door they got paint dropped on them. He was doing it all for himself and no one else was there to help him. He was being the true mature young adult and did it himself.
