Caterpillar to butterfly: National Geographic breaks down the steps in metamorphosis. First a butterfly plants eggs on a milkweed plant, when the eggs hatch a caterpillar comes out and eats the milkweed leaves. Once the caterpillar is satisfied with their food level they will hang upside down and wrap up in a silk chrysalis. In ten or so days the caterpillar will turn into a butterfly.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is about a caterpillar that eats and eats and eats because he is so hungry. He eats until he doesn’t feel hungry anymore and then settles down and makes himself a cocoon and sleeps for a couple weeks. When awaken the caterpillar is no longer a caterpillar and is now a beautiful butterfly.
