I mention this, because in the story, the snake convinces Adam and Eve to eat from the tree, granting them the knowledge of the gods and stripping them of their innocence: "Having tasted the fruit of this tree, he might say to himself, I have eaten at the gods’ own tree of knowledge and therefore know as well as they how to rule the world. I may do as I will do"(Quinn 172).
