Ethnic studies helps you get more than one perspective.

We should try to see as many perspectives as possible.

To learn more about different view we need to learn to respectfully disagree

By looking at each other's differences it allows you to see the value in everyone's experiences.

Something that resonates with me in each of the TED Talks is, firstly, in the TED Talk with Hannah Gedion is the push to help diversify education and to learn more from colored authors and ethnic cultures. This supports the idea of hearing from different perspectives, not just our own. I also learned that California is the first state to require High Schools to have an ethnic studies class to graduate.

The English curriculum had books all by white males, books such as Lord of the flies and shakespeare.

This is limited, it limits experience, knowledge and perspective

I, like when she says ethnic studies is about multiple perspectives throughout history, something that resonates with me, was when she says only using one color on a painting, and how our stories should be bright and colorful.

I appreciated the speaker's pathway to discovering ethnic studies through school involvement as a student. "Our differences are what make the world so beautiful" is a quote I connected with and share the same thought on the subject. I liked this TED Talk and all the material covered, as I felt a connection to what was said.

This TED talk showed me how dangerous it is to not have representation and accurate depictions of history for people of color. thier stories could be lost forever because only one side of the story was shown.

Why We Need Ethnic Studies in High School:

I resonated with the speaker discussing how learning to speak out about our opinions and some controversies should be the standard. Knowing what goes on with the areas we live in instead of turning a blind eye allows us to grow as people.

What resonated with me about the TED Talk: "Why we need Ethnic Studies in High school," was when Hannah Gedion said that a community without diversity is like coloring with only a single color. This stood out to me because it was very true. She brought up examples of previous authors of mandatory books that are a part of the English curriculum. There was a very common trend. She also talked about a previous TED talk about single stories, which brought up a very real conversation. There hasn't been much diversity in the classrooms until recently. This TED talk was full of knowledge and perspectives I hadn't fully understood previously. It was very informational

A single story can be dangerous. Ethnic studies is a diverse study of groups of underrepresented people, including Indigenous, Asian, African American, and Latinx. Having debates and sharing ideas will help people learn how to respectfully debate and disagree. California was the first state to require Ethic studies as a high school requirement in 2021. History had 30% of students report displaying discriminatory topics and discussing discrimination against a group or a certain ethnic group. Differences are what make communities and the world beautiful and rich.

What resonated with me during her TED talk was how she showed the examples of the authors that were required previously, the story of the land that they were on, and the data of the students. It all perfectly pieced together her point that when you omit important history, it is like a drawing without color. It really emphasized that seeing from different points of view is vital to learning history.

Many of the stories from our school weren't exclusive as they were before.
There was a survey that showed the discrimination/problematic things, it showed how there was some gaps but slowly there was still a lot that could be done to better it and expand it more.

I really like the talk It is interesting and really eye-opening, personally I never really thought much of what I read, authors, or anything of that sort till the talk. It simply showed me how much there can still be done to show more of these cultures. Overall this will most likely happen slowly as stated in the video but it will happen more in the future. Making students have more than one perspective and have knowledge of different cultures and most importantly the stories that they have.

One thing I understood from the TED talk was that we need ethnic studies so students can share their beliefs respectfully and still have their own opinions. Learning about different cultures helps break down stereotypes and brings people together. In the TED Talk, the speaker says understanding each other’s backgrounds builds respect. Ethnic studies make school safer, more inclusive, and help students feel proud of who they are.

something that resonated with me is the fact that we need to see every perspective and one story, is an incomplete story and an incomplete view. I like how she meantioned were like a picture with a thousand different colors and each color is a different perspective. we can see the value of the stories being taught in class if we dont have the ful perspective and full view.
