Growing up my dad was a stay-at-home dad and would babysit my three cousins while our moms worked. He would take us out into "the wild" almost every single day. Whether that be going out to a nearby park to run around, riding bikes on dirk mountains, or taking us swimming at the beach. I was always outside. He taught us how to ride bikes really well and taught all of us how to swim super well out in the ocean so we could get out of riptides and stay safe.

When my mom was off of work on vacation or taking a few days off we always tried to go out as a family. Every year around Thanksgiving we will go out to lake arrowhead, stay in cabins, and explore nature. During Christmas time we try to visit family from out of state. I have been to Arizona, Nevada, Washington, Oklahoma, Texas, and Oregon all just to visit family that keeps moving around. When we go out to visit, however, we always try to go on a nice hike on a trail or park and enjoy what's around us.

My family is very thankful for everything. We do not take anything for granted and we believe everything no matter the size matters and absolutely love nature and what it holds for us. I will continue cherishing every moment I have outside or with family. Nature itself is so beautiful and the properties it has for us are beyond. It can be used as a distraction when wanting to feel calm, it is so nice to go outside and do some yoga or sit and meditate in the open. Nature is so peaceful and brings me so much joy when having the opportunity to just soak in the sun, go into the wild, and enjoy life.

SUMMARY:
- Into the Wild, a novel was written around a dreamer(p.4) named Christopher Johnson McCandless. Starting with chapter 1, right outside Fairbanks, Alaska Jim Gallien picks up who he believes is a misfit(pg.4) and is not prepared enough for what will come his way in the amount of time he shared to stay. McCandless told the concerned(pg.5) man his name was Alex. Gallien wondered what Alex would do about hunting as he will become hungry(pg.7). However, Alex rejects(pg.4) the government's rules and would rather live as a free man.

ANALYSIS:
- If I knew McCandless in real life I would have mixed feelings about the way he takes on his journey. As a reader, I can only believe that he is very brave but should have been more prepared and made smarter choices. If I was related to or was a close friend of his I think I would be very upset with his decision for not telling anyone ahead of time and putting himself in danger. I wonder how it will affect his family later on in the novel...

#PutYourselfFirst #roamtheplanet #solotravelstories

SUMMARY:
- In Chapter 2 the narrator, Jon Krakauer, can connect with an undeterred(pg.12) school bus on the Stampede Trail. In Fairbanks, the bus was ajar(pg.11) for campers and hunters to use to keep safe. The bus was opened to them after construction was stopped because they didn't have enough money to continue working on it. On the bus, there was a note that halted(pg.10) hunters attention. The note was from McCandless saying he needed help and is ill. Also, that we went out for berries but he will be back. The bus had smelled so bad as if a decomposed(pg.13) body was inside. What bad incident(pg.11) will happen next?

ANALYSIS:
- As of right now I have mixed feelings about McCandless. At first, I was a little annoyed he left without letting anyone know the reason. However, now I am starting to be a little more understanding and am wondering how he dies. I wish he could have lived his journey long enough to travel more than what he initially planned.
#Passingnotes #purypurselfinothersshoes #YOLO

SUMMARY:
- Chapter 3 starts in a very small town in South Dakota, Carthage, where the election will begin in 8 days and Bill Clinton will be nominated as their moral(pg.18) President. Westberg talks about McCandless to Jon Krakauer who both take their separate(pg.17) ways. Westberg says he remembers McCandless being handsome and brave as he found him roaming(pg.19 around as a hitchhiker before picking him up. They formed a special bond(pg.19), Westberg let him stay in his trailer for the night when it was raining. However, Westberg found out Alex's real name was Christopher McCandless and worried(pg.16) after reading a tax form.

ANALYSIS:
- Now I am wondering if giving a fake name was such a good idea for McCandless to do or not. He has met a few people and gone on several journeys so far but because of his death will they be able to figure out the cause if people know him as the wrong name? I am starting to like McCandless more now because of his courage and the way other people describe him. However, I am just slightly worried about his decision-making and am hoping it will still be beneficial in the end.

#FriendlyandCourages #Travelbuddies. #Don't look back

SUMMARY:
At the start of the chapter, Krakauer describes a canyon, a watershed in the middle of the dessert, Davis Gluch. This canyon has swallowed(89) petroglyphs and carvings made by the Anasazi people and Everett Ruess. Ruess departed(93) and disappeared just like McCandless. Krakauer related himself to all of Ruess's journeys' that had led him to where he had left his very last carving in David Gluch. When Ruess disappeared he changed his name to Nemo(94) in other words no one. He no longer can hang(90) onto society and wants to remove himself completely. Krakauer's passion(91) took him to use the letters written by Ruess to find him.

ANALYSIS:
I find it interesting how the three men being compared to McCandless in this and the last chapter compare so similarly with McCandless and his journeys. Their way of thinking and intelligence are also very similar and I wonder if they could have known each other or even met before and we just don't know yet in the story. I wonder if anyone in Ruess' family found the cravings or ever saw any letters/inscriptions from "Nemo" and if they could recognize the writings? What else do Ruess and McCandless have in common?

#incommunicado #wordlypleasures #navajosoftestsand

SUMMARY:
The man who gave McCandless a ride into Alaska, Jim Gallien, saw a child's(102) death article in the New York Times. Jim thinks he recognizes and knows the identity(100) of the body and calls the police. He was gaunt(102) that the police considered him to be the same as other tipsters he says he saw the body on the trail. After being a trooper(100) and telling the police this lie they start searching for McCandless' family. One of McCandless's friends heard them talking about McCandless on the radio and calls the state troopers, but they didn't believe he knew him and told him to call back with actual evidence. Picture(99) yourself in a situation where your listening to the radio and hear them discussing your dead friend so you try to help and they don't believe you.

ANALYSIS:
I feel like the state troopers should have taken in some consideration from the friend. Will we get closer to finding the family of McCandless and telling them the truth about why he left? Also, will the friend become more involved in the rest of the book trying to find more evidence to give to troopers in order to help with their investigation?

SUMMARY:
At the beginning of this chapter, the narrator brings us through the house of Samuel McCandless in Maryland. He was really young when he got married but was still financially stable but his marriage fell apart with his family. He then Met Billie who was the opposite and could never keep a job(108). They didn't listen(105) to each other which would lead to lots of fights which led McCandless to go outside and start loving the outdoors. Inside it was always spotless(104) and Christopher was always successful. When giving his parents his reports (109) from school they knew he would be independent. Jumping back to his death however since he loved to play music in his success rangers will soon find his guitar(106) in the Datsun left behind.

ANALYSIS:
After reading this chapter I would be shocked if I was Christopher's family.

SUMMARY:
While trying to figure out the reasons McCandless goes into the wild the narrator gives us a few stories to search through. McCandless gave his father a telescope before leaving to college. His brother was super polite(119) but not in the way others would pursue. He was always angry(121) and would stay quiet and just do what he wanted when told no. Having devoted parents and having to eventually unearth(122) the divorce and move on is what he had to do. He would feel like crying(118) when arguing with his parents and had to read the letters written by Christopher. He wasn't upset about the failure(125) writing Christoper had in his letters because he always thought his parents would be able to fine him.

ANALYSIS:
In this chapter I felt bad how he had to deal with Chris disappearance. I also relate to the way he acts when getting told things though it is very similar to the way my brother reacts when getting yelled at not to do something. He is young and does not listen to my parents and does whatever he wants so I feel like I understand where he is coming from a little more. However, I don't understand what the parents are doing wrong and why they at manage to listen and put their issues aside to take care of their child. It is their job and now I am starting to think the parents are becoming one of the reasons Christopher left maybe.

#Betterparentingskills #badwriting #notesleftbehind

The narrator follows(130) her and she says her relationship with her brother was very close. Her husband was the one to print(131) into Carine's mind about Christopher's passing and how he disappeared. We then moved into Chesapeak where Billie was compulsively(132) losing weight from not eating. Walt on the other hand Walt couldn't stop eating(132) and gained lots of weight. Billie struggled through this the most and couldn't understand(132) why he chose to do this.

ANALYSIS:
I feel bad for Billie because I understand the feeling of being so sad you can't eat anything because your stomach feels so sick.

SUMMARY:
The narrator describes McCandless' story by including pieces of his own ending(135) life. Growing up he was a carpenter he then steered(136) his life. He tried moving up to Devil's Thumb in Alaska. Then travels to Washington in a car and goes north on boat. After, he sends postcards(133) and lands in Petersberg. He sleeps on the floor with a lady he met outside the library. He gets moody(134) that his supplies are not going to be dropped off in time and he will starve. Although, after freaking out basically the next morning the plane dropped his substantial(143) supplies including food so he won't starve now.

ANALYSIS:
The story is starting to get sad in my opinion. I am feeling bad for the narrator and McCandless even though it was his choice. He thought he would starve to death and his journey would be over and the feeling of being so hungry like that must be unbearable. I understand he chose this way of life but he also created a plan for himself to live and continue exploring the wild. Right now, I am starting to like Christopher McCandles a little bit more because in the last couple of chapters I was starting to feel anger towards his decisions. Although now he is struggling and is soon to his death I feel like his idea was worth it in his mind and he could have lived the best life.

#ontheedge #lifesastory #putyourselffirst

SUMMARY:
While sitting on the devil's(145) thumb Karakaeur stayed inside a tent. This is because of the madness(149) of the weather for three days. He feels as though he is failing(147) so he smokes marijuana to calm himself. Krakauer's father was treating(150) his siblings and him to be successful and successful only. He wanted them to go to Harvard but instead the narrator because a carpenter not bringing prosperity(148) to his father.

ANALYSIS:
I feel like the narrator has so many similarities to McCandless that we still haven't heard of. I feel proud of Karakaeur because of how he moves forward and does what will make him happy even if it doesn't meet his father's expectations. As for McCandless I still feel the same way about him as in the last chapter. My feelings have not changed and my opinion stays the same.

#whatmakesyouhappy #youfirst #onefootinfrontoftheother

SUMMARY:
At the start of this chapter, Christopher leaves Carthage to go to Denali National Park. A delivery driver(161), Gaylord Stucky, gave him a ride to Whitehorse. Stucky said he remembers McCandless talking about his person(159) Carine and his father. McCandless was broken(163) and the driver agreed to take him to Fairbanks. Although throughout the delay(158) he asked McCandless to call his parents. He goes to the University and buys survival materials and hands the worker "his" credit card(160). He bought a gun and a book about plants.

ANALYSIS:
During this chapter, I felt like McCandles is a lot smarter than I remember from the beginning chapters. It was very smart of him to buy the book about plants you can eat and a gun for food and self-protection. I wonder what he would have said to his parents if he actually called them. when the diver told him too.

#smarternotharder #edibleplants #wildthoughts

SUMMARY:
A year later, Krakauer goes back to the bus McCandless was in. He was crossing(174) the river with three others. He used a topographic map to navigate an aluminum basket opposite(173) of the river. McCandless was described by Krakauer as not wanting to know about common civilization. He didn't bring a map leaving him any evidence(180) as to where Teklanika was or if he had crossed it. When he arrived at the bus he stopped for a minute and looked at the animal bones haul(175) all around the bus. They were the animals McCandless had shot.

ANALYSIS:
I can't imagine what it would be like to see what Krakauer had seen around the bus. I would probably freak out after having to see all those dead animal bones wrapped around a bus where I know lies a dead human. In the last chapter, I thought McCandless was smart for buying a book about edible plants and a gun but the fact he had brought no map when traveling leads me to think is he actually smart? Did he not bring a map on purpose because he didn't want to know where he was heading at certain times and just knew or was it an accident?

#NomapNodirections #tothebone #busstop

SUMMARY:
When McCandless wasn't able to make it to cross the Teklanika river he went back to his bus to hunt. These were the mammals(195) found in the previous chapter wrapped around and scattered around his bus when Krakauer had found it. He gives examples from passages in other passages describing basically the American dream and modest livings. he left an alarming(193) note behind that said along the lines of happiness that are shared with other people is real. Krakauer found out that a sweet pea could have poisoned(194) McCandless. Shortly after the sweet pea was publicized the narrator became unambiguous(193) of the sweet pea being the reason for death.

ANALYSIS:
After reading the final chapter I to don't believe the sweet pea was the reason of death but rather the mold. If it hadn't grown what would have been the next step of McCandless's journey? Where would he have been headed to next and how much longer would he be alive for? If he had the book of edible plants I don't think a pea would have killed him unless he tried or wanted to commit suicide he knew what was edible and what was not. I am sad McCandless is dead and even more that I now know why.

#youonlyliveonce #Livetothefullest #donteatwildberries

SUMMARY:
Krakauer takes us to visit Christopher McCandless's parents. They are going to Alaska to see the bus their son had died in. His mother goes in first to see if the things inside actually belong to Chris where she finds silverware he had taken from home, and a pair of his jeans. She smelled them and told Walt that they smelled just like Chris. When they left they left behind a suitcase and plaque. They both were glad they had gone to the spot and his mom said she would have been admired by the into the wild decision if her son was still alive.
