Health promotion is about giving individuals more control over their health though the government making environmental and social changes to society to benefit the people. This is done by focusing on the initial cause of health issues and then looking at possible treatments or preventions that can then be implemented. “Health promotion enables people to increase control over their own health. It covers a wide range of social and environmental interventions that are designed to benefit and protect individual people’s health and quality of life by addressing and preventing the root causes of ill health, not just focusing on treatment and cure,”(WHO,2016).

Health education is about promoting ill health and diseases in order to inform individuals about what the illness is, what the signs and symptoms are and the possible long-term effects or cures for it. This helps to improve individuals health by improving their quality of life as they will have more information about illnesses, for example a sexually transmitted disease, as sex education talk is always spoken about to students when they are in school to inform them what a sexually transmitted disease is, how to prevent it and what are the consequences. By doing this it will reduce the amount of individuals who get the disease and also the cost for service because less individuals are likely to get the disease.

For example during COVID-19 the government created a law where you could not leave your house for unnecessary reasons, this was in order to safeguard the individuals from catching the virus and becomigill so that the spread of the virus was reduced.

These are specific measures taken by the government in order to protect individuals from the environment such as hazards that can cause harm to individuals health and well being. An example of this would be safe water supply, this is a process that the gourmet has created in order to make water potable and safe to drink by removing any harmful bacteria within the water.

Communicable diseases can spread disease such as contact, inhalation, insulation, ingestion, reservoirs, fomites and carriers. Disease can be transmitted through direct contact which means from one person who has the disease to another who does not by either touching each other's skin or bodily fluids, an example of this would be HIV, but also indirect contact such as a contaminated object like surgical equipment that has not been cleaned thoroughly.

Inhalation transmits disease through contaminated droplets in the air caused by coughing or sneezing that are breathed in. There are two types of droplets in the air: air-borne droplets that are very small and can last for long periods of time in the air, or larger droplets that are only in the air for a short period of time and only travel short distances so you would need to be close to someone who is contaminated to catch the disease.

Ingestion is catching the disease through contaminated food or water that has had the micro-organisms grow on and then has been ingested. Reservoirs can be humans, animals or water that contain the disease and can be transmitted from them, for example Tetanus is caused by the reservoir soil that has the bacteria and animal faeces.

Fomites are non-living objects such as a pencil that can pass the disease on through an infected person passing droplets onto the pencil and a non person touching the same pencil, this is called cross-infection. Finally carriers also spread disease because they may not realise they are infected if they are not showing any symptoms, animals can also be carriers such as fleas.

Non-communicable diseases are also known as chronic illnesses, they are diseases that usually result from a combination of genetics, psychological, environmental and behavioural factors, this means that the disease cannot be spread from one person to another. According to (WHO,2021), “ The main types of NCD are cardiovascular diseases (such as heart attacks and stroke), cancers, chronic respiratory diseases (such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma) and diabetes.” Non-communicable diseases are a major public health concern as they are one of the most common reasons for death worldwide.

Educating the public is really important in order for them to gain knowledge about any disease or risks to their health and wellbeing. Education about health can be done in several ways, these can include: information sharing sessions, digital media, leaflets, advertising, community programmes and learning materials. In order for individuals to take action to protect their health and wellbeing, they must gain enough knowledge about the signs, symptoms and what are the consequences of the disease. For example obesity, the public will need to be educated bout it to know how being obeses can cause a major risk to the health and that it can cause death in some cases, by doig this they will be able to monitor their exercise and wat they eat in order to prevent becoming overweight and obese.

Digital media has become very popular over the last years, this is because social media are becoming influences for young children, teenagers or even adults therefore if the influencer is promoting a health campaign then their followers are more likely to learn about the disease and be able to learn from this and take action about the health. Digital media is also the cheapest option which means that it is more beneficial for the government to get the public to be taught about a certain disease or condition that needs to be promoted quickly and efficiently.

Information sharing sessions can be included in schools, for example children in school are taught about safe sex and what the consequences are such as sexually transmitted diseases, this is beneficial because if the public is taught about how to keep their body healthy earl on then they are bale to prevent and change their lifestyle in order to reduce the risk. If individuals are educated early enough then they are able to have control over their health and wellbeing and be able to take measures in order to protect themselves.

Leaflets can last for a long period of time, once they are created they can be spread across different settings, such as in schools, doctors, hospitals and many more. Leaflets are a strong way to educate people because they are colourful and are more attractive with pictures, therefore individuals are more likely to pick up and read the leaflet if it is short and effective rather than a long article on the internet. Leaflets are suitable for all ages especially the eldery if for example they are sitting in the waiting room and wanting to learn more about a certain disease, they are able to take the leaflet and also ready it later on rather than in that moment likely you would have to on digital media.

Advertising is a more expensive way of educating the public, this is because advertising can be done through many sources such as on the tv, radio, billboards and many more. The information that is put across to the audience may be changing as it is advertised therefore it would need to be changed consistently. Advertising does not target a specific group for example tv adverts will be presented on the whole of the countries televisions which means it will be shared with everyone rather than a specific group of people.

Health promotion is much broader, it is about all the factors of an individual that lead to their behaviour and life choices related to their health. Health promotion is a combination of education, politics and environmental factors, whereas health education is about learning experiences through providing knowledge to a group of people in the hope that they will make the correct life changes in order to improve their health. Health education is just providing the information and health promotion is more about empowering individuals.

In order to better an individual's health, you will need to educate the people about their health and certain condition before you can promote health. Promoting will come after education as in order to promote living a healthy lifestyle and changing certain behaviours, the individual will need to be educated as t why they need to change and why their health will improve.
