Plus Ramon was the second character we learned about.Also that beginning scene (where Ramon steals the purse)does not necessarily have a explanation yet but it will pop up soon somewhere in the book.

I think that page 140 shows us a lot about Manny's characteristics because it shows that he takes pride in his baseball skills. Also, page 140 shows how Manny is a talented liar. I think he will be useful for some other scenes.

Yes I agree with you that one possible theme could be Never Give up, because Michael has never given up baseball even when his dad died, and he joined Little League. But that is not a main example. He never gives up believing that he will play Little League again.

Yeah, I know. Justin is so mean to Michael! He is such a sore loser, and just because of a game, he ruins Michael's life. I honestly think that Justin is wrong, but I don't think it's his fault. I think his dad is putting too much pressure on him. For example, there is a brief moment when Justin's dad yells at him just because his pitches aren't that good. I think that Justin is probably not such a bad kid, but his dad is a bad father.
