Challenger safety allows a student to challenge the status quo without retribution, reprisal, or the risk of damaging their personal standing in the classroom. it gives the student the confidence to speak truth to power when they think something needs to change and it's time to say so. With Challenger safety students overcome the pressure to conform and can list themselves in the creative process.

When my son was in 5th grade (the grade I taught) said that his friends who were in my class said that they "purposely make mistakes" because I praise them and make a big deal about how much "I love mistakes." I do clarify that I love GOOD mistakes - ones that happen when you are trying hard but need to keep looking at the problem.

Does your culture view disrespect in the same way that your students' cultures do? Make sure the way they are acting is seen as disrespect in their home and community, if so, there is a just a culture barrier, not an issue of disrespect
