I agree with the statement. I feel that this will benefit citizens especially those who was retrenched and have no source of income. Although now government still provide support for those who faces financial problems but why do they still have to go through means testing when they are really in need of help. (Document 1)Why should there be requirements to seek help when all of the citizens is facing the same crisis. Hence, this UBI would support those who are really in need of assistance. This UBI will promote equality however, there should still be limitations to prevent those who have a better financial background from taking advantages.(Document 4) Maybe a maximum of $500-$600 could be given out per month and from there government could see if there is a need of increase or decrease of UBI.

I agree that the UBI is a sustainable solution for the economic problems faced by singapore during the pandemic. With Covid 19 having a heavy impact on the economy particularly in sectors such as food and beverages retailers ( hospitality) leisure, tourism and aviation,it caused even able-bodied people to be unable to work. Instead of testing the eligibility of an individual or a family for governemnt assistance, all singaporeans should be provided with some basic income .The UBI is a great opportunity to prevent the working poor from falling even more than they already have and give everyone a cushion during this pandemic and that the middle income earners will also have a more disposable income to provide for their families in the months ahead .

I agree that the UBI is a sustainable solution for the economic problems faced by Singapore during the pandemic. Ever since the pandemic started till even now, many have lost their jobs due to retrenchment, a pay cut, or even be on no pay leave. As a result impacting individuals greatly as their only source of income might be cut off completely. Hence with the implementation of the UBI, people are able to receive a stable basic income at the very least, to ensure that they are still able to sustain a living for themselves and their family. Especially for those with low monthly income, they would not have sufficient savings to last them a few months without any source of income. It would also be difficult for them to acquire help economically since they have to go through a series of procedures to be deemed qualified for financial assistance. However with the UBI, they will still receive adequate amount of money monthly to help them in times of need provided they spend it wisely, hence it will in turn still help the society financially.

I agree with the statement. In times of crisis, the UBI scheme will benefit many singaporeans as it provides sustainable income for the lower-income families. Singaporeans who have lost their jobs during this pandemic are at least able to have a safety net to fall on as it provided them a sufficient amount of money to get through the month.

I agree with the statement. UBI would come in handy especially during unexpected difficulties such as the pandemic that has affected the nation’s economy severely. Regardless of their socio-economic status, almost all citizens are negatively affected. Citizens lose their jobs, businesses had to close down because they are not making money thus, UBI would be able to help citizens to survive.

I agree with the statement. The UBI scheme would be able to help those that had their pay cut during the pandemic. This will help citizens to be able to get through the month without too much trouble compared to if they had no income at all. It would benefit most citizens as during the pandemic most have lost their job or on no pay leave. The UBI scheme will help release some stress during such a desperate time.

I agree with the statement. The pandemic has brought a sudden downfall to Singaporeans in various ways, especially financially. Citizens are losing their jobs and getting pay cut. In June 2020, the number of unemployed singaporeans and permanent residents rose up to 90,500. Even with the relief fund given, not all citizens are able to pass the means testing even though they need it crucially. Some citizens have a large household size. Without a stable income, it might be tough to even cope with basic essential needs. With the UBI implemented, it would help citizens to manage with the ongoing pandemic financially.

I disagree with the UBI solution as people in the essential jobs are working harder than those that are not working. Since those who are not working will still be paid regardless and therefore the people that worked twice as hard will lose motivation to continue, slowly degrading the economy. It might make earning less important during this pandemic to those who work extra hard.

I agree to the statement. UBI should be implemented due to the pandemic Singapore's economy is going down hill with multiple businesses shutting down and many companies having retrenchment with this kind of situation I think UBI should be implemented but temporary onlyf If the UBI goes on long term, many will take advantage of it by not going to work or find jobs this will not be of help to building back Singapore's economy even though we rely mostly on tourism .

I agree with the statement. With UBI, citizens whom lost their jobs and have financial difficulties during the pandemic, will benefit a lot from it. Receiving income weekly would help them with paying bills, buying food daily especially for the parent in the family where they have children to feed. This will naturally help many people as having financial difficulties is one of the main big problem during the pandemic. It is also because many businesses are closing down and affected many so UBI will benefit a lot of people.
