1.Research is defined as careful consideration of study regarding a particular concern or problem using scientific methods.

Key features of scientific research:

Objectivity= it sees and accepts facts as they are, not as one might wish they were.

Can be verified

Ethically neutral= meaning it only seeks knowledge.

Reliability

Accuracy

Include explanations and predictions

2.Basic research involves "why, what, how" questions to explain things we are curious about, looking at how processes or concepts work. Information obtained from basic research often creates a foundation for applied studies.

examples: studying the growth of a cat from embryo to born, studying the origins of cells.

Applied research is a type of examination looking to find practical solutions for existing problems. These can include challenges in the workplace, education and society. This research type uses empirical methodologies, such as experiments, to collect further data in an area of study.

There are three types of applied researches:

Action research: Action research helps businesses find practical solutions to problems by giving them guidance.

Evaluation research: In evaluation research, researchers analyse existing information to help clients make an informed decision.

Research and development: Research and development focuses on creating new products or services to meet a target market's needs.

Examples: A study to find ways to make car tires last longer, A study exploring ways to cook gluten-free meals with a limited budget, and A study on how to treat patients with insomnia, etc.

3.

Methodology:

Rationale for the research approach.

Howell, 2013 described methodology as: “General research strategy that outlines the way in which research is to be undertaken”

Examples include: Participatory, Grounding theory, etc.

Method: The tools and solutions you used to answer and solve questions, the source of where you obtain data for an experiment.

Examples: Interview, Usability study ,Survey, Diary study, etc

Activity 1.1
1.Social research is a technique used by social scientists and researchers to learn about people and communities in order to produce goods and services that meet their diverse demands. Research questions, literature review, theory, participants, data collection, data analysis and writing up are the elements of social research.

The major characteristics of scientific knowledge include the following: Empirical, Objective, Accuracy, Systematic, Ethical consideration, Reliable, Predictable, Replicable, Controlled and have a definite objective.

2. Basic research is theory-oriented that aims at expanding knowledge by creating new theories and modifying existing ones, acquire new knowledge of the underlying foundation of phenomena and observable facts, without any particular application or use in view’.
Examples:
- A study looking at how alcohol consumption impacts the brain.
- A study to discover the components making up human DNA.

Applied research is practical-oriented that focused on providing practical solutions to specific problems by analysing empirical evidence.
Examples:
- An investigation to identify the healing properties of a specific herb.
- An investigation to identify the side effects of using a particular drug.

Activity 1.2
1. Methods are simply the actions or instruments employed in the selection of a research technique. The term "methodology" refers to e theoretical framework to support the methods chosen. It is a perspective taken on the research, which dictates how it is approached.

2. A methodology will give you that path. And choosing a wholly suitable and sound method that is right for your research project will give you the path to help you succeed. It will give you the guidelines to make your project manageable, smooth and effective. Also, data collection methods are important because how the information collected is used and what explanations it can generate are determined by the methodology and analytical approach applied by the researcher.

3. I would choose interviewing because it can be more useful than questionnaires because they allow researchers to collect non-verbal data. For example, researchers can see whether particular questions make an interview subject nervous or whether the test subject struggles to answer the question. Also, in questionnaires, responses are limited to answers to predetermine questions.

Activity1.1
1.Research means proactively seeking the root cause and a higher reliability basis for the work done to improve the reliability and robustness of the cause or power.Objectivity, systematicness and creativity are the three basic characteristics of scientific research.

2.Basic research: refers to experimental and theoretical work for the acquisition of basic principles and new knowledge about phenomena and observable facts, and is not intended for any specific or specific application or use.
Applied research: refers to creative research for the acquisition of new knowledge, which is mainly aimed at a specific practical purpose or goal.
Examples of basic research: research on how alcohol consumption affects the brain,
Research to discover the constituents that make up human DNA
Examples of applied research: a study of how insomnia patients are treated, a study of diagnostic methods in patients with schizophrenia

Activity 1.2
1, Methods are just behavior or tools used to select a research technique. Methodology is analysis of all the methods and procedures of the investigation. Methods are applied during the later stage
of the research study. Methodologies are applied during the initial stage of the research process.
2.(1) It is conducive to the sustainable development of various disciplines. The number of research methods and their application level directly affect the effect, efficiency and effectiveness of scientific research. It is conducive to the formation of academic norms. (2) Academic norms are some basic procedures, basic methods and requirements to be followed by researchers in the process of engaging in scientific research, which are formed by people in the process of long-term scientific activities, and are constantly improved in the dynamic process.

3.Of the two I would choose Questionnaires to collect data in my research, since it provide a relatively cheap, quick and efficient way of obtaining large amounts of information from a large sample of people. Data can be collected relatively quickly because the researcher would not need to be present when the questionnaires were completed.

Activity 1.1
1.methodical research and analysis of materials and sources in order to establish facts and draw new findings

The scientific method is the system used by scientists to explore data, generate and test hypotheses, develop new theories and confirm or reject earlier results. Although the exact methods used in the different sciences vary (for example, physicists and psychologists work in very different ways), they share some fundamental attributes that may be called characteristics of the scientific method.

2.social sciences assist people in better understanding how to interact with the social world—how to influence policy, build networks, improve government accountability, and promote democracy. For many people around the world, these difficulties are urgent, and their resolution can make a significant difference in people's lives.
For example, a study of behaviour at football matches has shown that if police avoid heavy-handed tactics this can help maintain crowd control in potentially hostile situations. The study's findings on how to create a less confrontational atmosphere are being included in police training across Europe.

3.Basic Research is experimental or theoretical work that is conducted in order to acquire knowledge of facts without application of views. Applied Research is an investigation conducted in order to acquire knowledge on a topic in general. It is often directed at an aim or objective.
Examples:
Basic research: A research to discover the components of the human DNA.
How do teaching methods affect student's concentration in class?

Applied research examples: A study into marketing strategies to appeal to the aspirations of millenials in China.
An investigation into the ways of improving employee motivation in Marriot Hotel, Hyde Park

Activity1.2
1. Methodology is theoretical approaches and philosophical approaches. It is practiced considerations that decide our choice of research process. Research methods are techniques for collecting data, e.g. interviewing, observation, questionnaire

2.Social scientists need to discuss the methodology in order to understand how research can be and should be done. This analysis of methods and the overall framework of assumptions is a way to ensure that our concussion to a problem is valid and reliable.

3.We prefer questionnaires when it comes to the method of data collection as they gather data in a more materialistic form. When it comes to interviews, having a face to face conversation can be unsettling for specific people while in a questionnaire, not only will it remove the pressure of having another person but also provide the participant as much time as they need to answer each question.

1) Research conducted for the purpose of contributing towards science by the systematic collection, interpretation, and evaluation of data and that, too, in a planned manner is called scientific research: a researcher is the one who conducts this research. The results obtained from a small group through scientific studies are socialised, and new information is revealed with respect to diagnosis, treatment, and reliability of applications. The purpose of this review is to provide information about the definition, classification, and methodology of scientific research.

2)Basic research: experimental or theoretical research carried out in order to acquire new knowledge about the basic principles of phenomena and observable facts (to reveal the nature of objective things, the law of movement, to obtain new discoveries, new theories), which is not aimed at any special or specific application or use. Its achievements are mainly in the form of scientific papers and scientific works. It is used to reflect the original creative ability of knowledge.

Applied basic research: it refers to the basic research whose direction has been relatively clear and whose achievements can be used to achieve industrial technological breakthroughs in a short period of time. The theoretical research in applied research is also called "applied basic research".

3)Method refers to the use of various skills, strategies, and tools within a research project, while on the other hand, the methodology is the philosophical and theoretical justification of a certain chosen method.

4)This is because without first deciding on the methodology, which is the theoretical approach towards data-collecting and the research as a whole, as well as the employment of correct procedures in seeking out credible answers, it is difficult for social scientist to decide on what research method to adopt.

5)We will use the questionnaire method because it is more efficient and can save the time of analysis, as well as it has objectivity and respondents can speak freely

1. Research topic: Impacts of Ageing population in Japan

According to National Institute of Population and Social Security Research, in Japan the share of aged people has been rising since 1950. The figure is expected to rise to as high as 35.3% in 2040. Towards the trend shown, there is an increase of ageing population in Japan which may take harm to the Japan society.

2. Research Questions:
-why it is serious in Japan?
-what social problem will cause by population ageing?
-How ageing population affects the healthcare system in Japan ?
-How does an aging population affect a country's economy?
-Why is it bad to have an aging population
-Does an aging population have any advantages?

Methods:
-take survey by creating multiple choices questions posting on the internet
-interviews on grabbing datas for ageing population and how it affects different stakeholders

3. Overall, population ageing is likely to affect savings, investment, real interest rates and international capital flows. In fact, population ageing may drive capital flows from faster ageing countries to slower ones, affecting the financial health of countries and regions and the distribution of global economic power. Some economists believe that the long-term fiscal problems associated with an aging population will be more severe in Japan. This shows that aging has an important impact on the economic development of various countries.

topic: The impact of gender inequality in the workplace

the phenomenon：

Since the 1960s and 1970s, western feminism has found that the reason for the inequality between men and women does not lie in biological gender, but

In terms of gender, they advocated the separation of gender in the biological sense from gender roles constructed by society and culture

To come.

the definition ：The so-called "equality between men and women" is not the equality of men and women without distinction. This "absolute equality" concept ignores the social system and social structure

Male privilege and female disadvantage limit the function and effect of equal rights, and ultimately only bring about the continuous inequality between the sexes

Femininity is not always seen as undesirable in the workplace, and femininity is valued in all kinds of jobs. Women's skills related to communication and emotional labor are often highly valued in front-line service jobs (Kerfoot & Korczynski, 2005; Korczynski, 2002; Pettinger, 2005). However, as Kelan (2008) points out, this does not necessarily mean that women benefit, since men are just as good, if not better, at profiting from the currency of femininity in particular workplace Settings. Male displays of femininity in the workplace may be highly valued and rewarded, while similar displays by women may simply be dismissed as "natural" expressions of femininity (Taylor & Tyler, 2000). Thus, individuals are constantly doing gender in the workplace, and both men and women can "do" femininity and masculinity. It is these different values of gender expression that may lead to gender inequality, with the expression of masculinity and femininity generally valued more and considered more authentic than the expression of femininity. As a result, the rhetoric of success is gendered, and men and women have different perceptions of what it means to succeed in work and organizational Settings.
