Today is the day we leave the city of Mali for our trip to Cairo. The king has 500 others coming on this 4,800 mile trip. I am sad to say I am leaving my family behind on this trip for a whole year but the king has only asked for me and the others. But I am glad to say that we will be stopping at cities like Timbuktu, Taghaza, Cairo and Mecca.

We've arrived at the city of Timbuktu, there is talk about a free university to Islamic scholars who come from near and far to this school. This is because of the great kings funding. I've also heard that the culture of this place is like Athens and Rome and it's also a well thriving trade center.

It seems like the king has been very generous and his devotion of religion has made a great impression on the people here in Cairo. There's been so much gold in the city now it's seemed to lose a bit of it's value because things here have seemed to become a higher price than they were before.

Finally, we are home. The journey was amazing. The people of Niani were rejoicing as they saw the caravan coming back into town. Its a nice feeling being home after a 4,000+ mile trip. It's nice to see my family and friends again. although the journey was nice, nothing beets seeing my family. The experience was well worth the year of walking because we got to experience something most people don't get to ever experience.

I learned that Mansa Musa was a very generous man who was so wealthy that as he gave gold to the poor he caused the prices of gold to go down. Even though some may think he was greedy or mean he was very religious person that was fulfilling his religion.
